- "You could kill me. That would be easy for you. But my Russian friends from Brighton Beach would have no qualms shooting up school yards and taking out whole families, Moscow style, if you did that."

The Russian Mafia is a Russian crime organization operating in New York City.
History[]
Work in New York[]
Collaboration with Wilson Fisk[]
The Russian Mafia leaders Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov were recruited by Wilson Fisk to transport the Steel Serpent heroin produced by Madame Gao and moved over into Hell's Kitchen to run a human trafficking ring, taking over from the Italian Mafia, which had folded after the death of Don Rigoletto. During one of these operations to transport a group of young women, Turk Barrett and several Russians were attacked by the man in the mask, who defeated mobsters and released the women.[1]
Hunting the Masked Man[]
To entice the Masked Man, the Russians attacked a resident of Hell's Kitchen and kidnapped his son. They set up a false location for the Masked Man to follow, allowing them to attack him and beat him nearly to death. He escaped, so Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov had then sent Semyon to find him. Semyon was captured and interrogated by the Masked Man, however. He went to the Troika Restaurant, where he beat all the Russian mobsters and saved the boy.[2]
Increasing their Reach[]
Following the assassination of Prohaszka, orchestrated by Wilson Fisk, Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov acquired the taxi company of their rival, Kitchen Cab, and absorbed it into Veles Taxi, their own front company.[3]
Kidnapping of Claire Temple[]
Vladimir and Anatoly Ranskahov visited the hospitalized Semyon, and gave him a shot of epinephrine. When he awoke, he informed them about Claire Temple as someone close to the Masked Man. They sent Sergei to her apartment and he kidnapped her. When they back at Veles Taxi Garage, Sergei began torturing Temple and demanding to know the location and identity of the Masked Man, but Temple continued to deny any knowledge of this. Before he could continue torturing Temple, the Masked Man came to the garage beaten up Sergei and all thugs and saved Temple. Vladimir and Anatoly returned to the garage and discovered the incident. Knowing their organization in danger, Anatoly chose to accept Wilson Fisk's offer for a buyout, despite Vladimir's reservations.[4]
Murder of Anatoly Ranskahov[]
However, Anatoly Ranskahov was murdered by Wilson Fisk because he made him look bad in the eyes of Vanessa Marianna.[4] The next day, Vladimir Ranskahov was informed that Russians found Anatoly. They brought his corpse into the room and inside his brother's jacket, they found the black mask. That led them to believe that the Masked Man was responsible for Anatoly's murder. Later, Vladimir had been informed by Turk Barrett that it was actually Fisk who was responsible for the assassination of Anatoly. In response, Vladimir ordered Sergei to get all their weapons ready to go to war against their former ally. In turn, Fisk came to the conclusion that the Russians were too dangerous and he needed to get rid of them.[5]
War with Wilson Fisk[]
Before Vladimir Ranskahov could call the rest of his men and they could leave, they spotted one of Madame Gao's blind delivery men arriving in the warehouse. Several similar other men were sent by Fisk to the Russians' hideouts as unwilling suicide bombers, destroying the location and killing multiple gangsters.[5] Survivors were executed by corrupt police officers under Fisk's payroll. Eventually they managed to assassinate Vladimir.[8]
Return to Crime[]
Selling the Steel Serpent[]
The Russian Mafia reorganized and resumed their criminal activities. They renewed their cooperation with Madame Gao and agreed to move the Steel Serpent exclusively, which covered most of the Hand's actives of Lower Manhattan and New Jersey.[9] The Russians also began to collaborate with Rosalie Carbone and her own crime organization.[10]
