Ruben Mackenzie is the son of John and Lilla Mackenzie, and the younger brother of Alphonso Mackenzie. Alphonso and Ruben were raised by their uncle Marcus after their parents were killed.

Ruben Mackenzie was the brother of Alphonso, whom he called "Alfie." Following the death of their parents, the brothers moved into their uncle Marcus' house. A man named Deke Shaw was very nice and even gave them gifts from time to time. One of these gifts being a car. Ruben was also very close with Alfie. Later, they were given a model car by a friend of Shaw's.[2]
