- "Hey, listen, husky Rusky, capitalism is the only system that stands for a man's right to own his work, his life, and his happiness. Any man who thinks money is the root of all evil is obviously poor. Not a country on this planet that doesn't run on greed."
- ―Obadiah Stane to Red Guardian[src]
Obadiah Stane was an American businessman who sold information to the Soviet Union, who designated him as Rook.
Biography[]
Working with the Soviets[]
- "Look, I traded the Russians some information on Stark's hunky-dory serum. A little tit-for-tat. And in return, you two idiots were supposed to kill the Starks! Now, I was supposed to be givin' a tear-filled eulogy about the fool right now, while they scrape his name off Stark Industries. But instead, Howard Stark's sitting eatin' tapioca in a hospital, and I'm talking to you, Stupid Siegfried and Angry Roy!"
- ―Obadiah Stane to Red Guardian and Winter Soldier[src]
Obadiah Stane was the business partner of Howard Stark, a partnership that turned bitter, as Stane wished to have Stark taken out so that he could be put in charge of Stark Industries. To accomplish this, Stane traded information about Stark's whereabouts and his Super Soldier Serum recreation to the Red Room so that they would assassinate him and his wife for him.

Stane with Winter Soldier and Red Guardian
However, this did not occur, and Stane soon met those responsible, Red Guardian and Winter Soldier, who arrived at his hotel room in Las Vegas. When Red Guardian learned that Stane was a capitalist, Stane defended his worldview while also expressing his annoyance at the two. To ensure no one would know of his involvement, Stane grabbed shot at Red Guardian, but Winter Soldier saved him. Winter Soldier then threw Red Guardian's shield at Stane, which knocked him out of the hotel, killing him.[1]
