- "You lose someone?"
"My wingman, Riley. Flying a night mission. Standard PJ rescue op. Nothing we hadn't done a thousand times before. Until an RPG knocked Riley's dumbass out of the sky. Nothing I could do. It's like I was up there just to watch." - ―Steve Rogers and Sam Wilson[src]
Ronald Riley was a pararescueman working with the 58th Pararescue Squadron alongside Sam Wilson until he was tragically killed during a mission.
History[]
Test Pilot Career[]

Riley and Sam Wilson
Ronald Riley was a test pilot for the EXO-7 Falcon along with Sam Wilson. Riley and the 58th Pararescue Squadron were tasked with apprehending Khalid Khandil, a notable target in Afghanistan. Khandil hid in an area protected by soldiers using RPGs, preventing the United States Air Force from sending helicopters to the area.
Riley and Wilson infiltrated the area using two sets of EXO-7 Falcon mechanical wing harnesses, allowing them highly maneuvered flight. Riley was struck and killed by one of the RPGs, and Wilson could do nothing to help him.[2]
Legacy[]
Later, Wilson would describe the incident to Steve Rogers, saying he felt powerless and that he was beside his friend just to watch him die. He also stated that it made it hard to find a reason to be in the Air Force anymore, leading to his retirement.[2]
Equipment[]
- EXO-7 Falcon: A prototype jet-pack with wings that enables the user to fly. The wings can also be used as defensive and offensive weapons, as they are highly flexible and bulletproof.
