"We're getting out of here, with this."
Rocket Raccoon to Batch 89[src]

Rocket Raccoon's Key Card was a makeshift key card made by Rocket Raccoon to help open the cages in Arête Laboratories.

History[]

Creation[]

This section needs a rewrite

During his time on Arête Laboratories, Rocket gathered pieces of scrap metal from his lessons with his creator, the High Evolutionary, and stored them inside of his cage. He stole some scraps from a nearby table before High Evolutionary unveiled the Humanimals.[1]

Escape from Arête Laboratories[]

Upon learning that High Evolutionary intended on killing his friends in Batch 89 and extract his brain for further experimentation, Rocket, after being thrown back in his cage, gathered every piece of scrap metal he could find and assembled them into a skeleton key card to free him and the rest of Batch 89, as he explained what High Evolutionary planned on. After finishing it, Rocket used the card to unlock his and Floor's cage, before carefully unlocking Teefs and Lylla's cage freeing all of them. Unfortunately, during the escape, all of Rocket's friends were killed, with Rocket keeping the card after making his way out., becoming a bounty hunter and later joining the Guardians of the Galaxy[1]

Attack on Rocket[]

By 2026, before Rocket went to sleep on Knowhere, he came across the card, which saddened him from it's reminder of his failure of saving his friends, before storing the card in his pants. He was then attacked and severely injured by Adam Warlock, who was sent by High Evolutionary to grab Rocket for him, with the card being taken to the Bowie alongside Rocket as the Guardians of the Galaxy sought to help him.[1]

Attack on Arête Laboratories[]

Eventually, when Rocket was saved by the Guardians, he aided the team in rescuing the Star Children from the High Evolutionary. When Rocket found the cage he was held in as a kit, he used the card for the first time since his initial escape to open the cage. He then used the card to save all the remaining un-experimented animals alongside the kits after finally defeating the High Evolutionary.[1]
