The Robbery of the Russian Nuclear Facility was an attempt by A.I.M. to get new power sources for their Stark Industries weapons.

Iron Man was able to successfully take down the Maggia in what he believed to be his last act in getting rid of the Stark Industries weapons. However, the Maggia's base, the Flying Fortress, seemed to be created by a third party. Therefore, Stark did research and found out about A.I.M., which was his top client. Meanwhile, James Rhodes came in telling Stark about issues with a Russian Nuclear Facility being taken over by A.I.M.[1]

"Listen, there's a problem with a nuclear base in Russia and we can't sent in troops for obvious reasons, but there is another option."
"There are always other options, Rhodey."

On the way to the Russian Nuclear Facility, Iron Man talked with James Rhodes, who realized that the power source was the only thing holding the Iron Man Armor back and A.I.M. happened to be looking for a power source.

Before Stark could even reach the main facility, he was attacked by A.I.M., causing him to sarcastically remark how he has learned to love it. Iron Man flew around, having to destroy the ten air defenses awaiting him. Once he did so, he was confronted by Boris Bullski, who was in charge of the robbery. Bullski had a titanium armor that gave him abilities when charged with nuclear energy. Additionally, Bullski released a turret which he called Tatyana.

Iron Man was forced to destroy Tatyana, which he did after several blasts, causing Titanium Man to charge his suit for a battle. The duel commenced as the two blasted each other with energy. Eventually, Stark was able to knock Bullski down and flew over to check on the body. Believing he was dead, Stark left, only for Titanium Man to get up soon after.[1]

"At first I just wanted to destroy my own weapons and that was simple, but now, I mean, now I know about A.I.M. and since I know, I have an obligation to do something about it. Right? Don't I?"
Iron Man[src]

Back at Tony Stark's Mansion, Stark angrily talked with James Rhodes about A.I.M. and how ridiculous it was to him that they were tampering with nuclear energy. Rhodes tried to calm him down, but Stark talked about how he felt he had an obligation to destroy A.I.M. Additionally, Titanium Man eventually recovered and attacked Iron Man at Stark Industries Headquarters. This rematch ended with Bullski's death.[1]
