"What should I tell the police?"
"Tell them those Tae-bo tapes really paid off."
―Cashier and Phil Coulson[src]

The Robbery of the Roxxon Gas Station was a heist committed by two robbers in order to demand the money from the register at the Roxxon Corporation gas station in New Mexico. They were thwarted by Phil Coulson, who was buying snacks at the station.

Background[]

"Goodbye. I’ve been reassigned. Director Fury wants me in New Mexico."
Phil Coulson to Tony Stark[src]

Phil Coulson insisted to Nick Fury that there was something in Puente Antiguo, New Mexico worth investigating,[2], until he was finally relieved from his assignment of watching over Tony Stark and investigate the sudden appearance of a hammer.[4] While driving to New Mexico, Coulson stopped at a gas station owned by the Roxxon Corporation and went into the convenience store, struggling to decide which donut to buy.[5]

Robbery[]

"Excuse me. I also have this gun. You'll probably be needing that."
Phil Coulson[src]

Two robbers entered the convenience store and aimed their guns at the clerk, demanding to know who else was there. Phil Coulson spoke up and said that the car outside was his, and the robbers pointed their gun at him and demanded his keys. Coulson tossed the keys over as the robbers turned their attention to the clerk, demanding that she entered the cash register into a bag, along with cigarettes. Coulson interrupted them, holding out his gun and asking if they also wanted him to pass them that.

They aimed their guns at him, and he told them to calm down. One of the robbers demanded that he toss them the gun, but Coulson said that he would prefer not to throwing, lest the gun accidentally go off. He asked if he could slide it over, and the robbers agreed. Coulson moved over to the next aisle and slid the gun over to the robber, while he picked up a bag of flour and threw it at the other robber. Coulson ran over to the robber and kicked him, stealing his gun and hitting the other robber with it. Coulson knocked out both robbers, picked his keys back up and went to the register, kicking one gun away and placing the other on the desk.[5]

Aftermath[]

"Sorry for the mess. I couldn't decide."
Phil Coulson[src]

Phil Coulson casually apologized to the clerk for placing a mess, and placed two donuts on the counter, saying that he could not decide which to buy, placing a dollar bill on the counter as well. Coulson told the clerk to keep the change and took his donuts. The clerk stopped him and asked what she should tell the police. Coulson told her to say that she stopped the robbers and left the gas station as his car finished filling up with gas.[5]

The police came and responded to the robbery, marking it as a crime scene. The next day, Clint Barton arrived at the gas station and asked what happened. She replied that someone attempted to rob the station, and Barton accurately guessed that it was a man in a black suit, surprising the clerk.[2] Coulson went to Puente Antiguo and discovered Mjølnir.[4] The hammer was classified as an 0-8-4.[6] S.H.I.E.L.D. set up an investigation site around the hammer, which was infiltrated by Thor. The investigation led S.H.I.E.L.D. into a conflict with the Destroyer.[7]
