- "HMS Neptune is planning to launch on the UN delegation. That would mean World War III."
"Well, why would they do something silly like that?"
"Because at least one of Gravik's rebels has infiltrated Command." - ―Nick Fury and Sonya Falsworth[src]
The Rescue of UN-1 was a successful mission undertaken by Nick Fury and Talos to prevent the Skrull Resistance from attacking the United Nations delegation by averting a missile strike from the nuclear submarine HMS Neptune.
Gravik, who coordinated the attack and Skrull infiltration of the Royal Navy, had an additional motive to utilize the strike as a means of uncovering and exposing a traitor within their ranks.
Background[]
- "I sent three operatives to infiltrate the Royal Navy. And execute a strike on a key United Nations target."
- ―Gravik[src]
The Skrull Resistance infiltrates HMNB Clyde
As the next step of his plan to throw the human race into the war and take over the Earth, Gravik targeted the UN-1, a plane with the United Nations delegation. Gravik orderded Pagon, Zirksu and Beto to impersonate Dave Matailton, Connor Coombes, and Thom Phipps, and infiltrate the Royal Navy. They managed to infiltrate HMNB Clyde in Scotland, and got aboard HMS Neptune. Gravik also had Bob Fairbanks, an officer in charge of the Neptune, simmed by an impostor, to coordinate a strike on the plane, blaming the United Kingdom for an attack.
Nick Fury receives Bob Fairbanks' profile
During Talos' meeting with Gravik, G'iah secretly provided him with intel about Gravik's plans, so he reunited with Nick Fury. Fury contacted Sonya Falsworth and warned her about the attack, however, Falsworth was in no state to aid Fury, since she was dealing with MI6 being possibly compromised. Falsworth, however, provided Fury with information about Fairbanks, as well as his address in Portsmouth. However, they were unaware that Gravik's true intention behind the attack was to flush out the traitor within the Resistance.[1]
Rescue[]
Nick Fury and Talos arrived at the Fairbanks Residence, where the Skrull Resistance members took over as the security detail. Talos disguised himself as Bob Fairbanks to pass through the guards and enter the building, however, he was busted by one of the guards. Inside, he was overpowered and taken hostage by Fairbanks' impostor, who tried to use Talos' voice to lure Fury into the trap. Killing several Skrulls, Fury got inside and saw through the lie, as "Fairbanks" called him "Nick".
Nick Fury threatens Bob Fairbanks Skrull
As "Fairbanks" was holding Talos hostage, Fury took Zachary Fairbanks as his hostage, forcing "Fairbanks" to stand down. Before they arrived, "Fairbanks" submitted an order to HMS Neptune to strike UN-1, and Pagon in Dave Matailton's disguise was to ensure the order will be executed. Fury and Talos tried to get "Fairbanks" to call off the strike, however, he refused due to his disdain towards Talos. As his attempts to negotiate were fruitless, Fury lost his temper and shot "Fairbanks" in the leg, giving Talos the last chance to get the code word to call off the strike, before killing "Fairbanks".
G'iah accesses Bob Fairbanks' memories
Talos did not succeed, so he killed "Fairbanks" himself and contacted G'iah, asking her to find out the code word. Back at the New Skrullos, G'iah incapacitated the two guards and accessed the memories of the real Fairbanks. Eventually, she found out that the code word is "Zachary", after Fairbanks' son, and relayed it to Talos. Using Fairbanks' voice, Talos reached out to the submarine and ordered to abort the launch, and even Pagon was forced to comply and authorize it, to prevent his cover from being blown.[1]
Aftermath[]
Knowing that she now fully betrayed the Skrull Resistance, G'iah attempted to escape from the New Skrullos. She accessed Rosa Dalton's memory and used the Super Skrull Machine to give herself the Extremis regeneration.[2] As she was driving away, she was caught by Gravik and attempted to lie to him, that she was off to extract Pagon and the others, now that the mission was failed. Gravik informed her that his real plan was to find the mole within their ranks, and shot G'iah. However, when he drove away, the Extremis in her body healed G'iah, and Gravik was unaware that she survived.[1]
