History[]

The Rebirth Pod was a key component of the process used for Project Rebirth, the 1940s experiment that transformed Steve Rogers into Captain America. The chamber was created by the Strategic Scientific Reserve to administer the Vita Radiation developed by Dr. Abraham Erskine. The chamber was constructed, in part, and operated by Howard Stark. During the experiment, the chamber required a tremendous amount of energy and was hooked directly to the power grid of 40s era New York City. The procedure was a success, transforming the formerly sickly Steve Rogers into a muscle bound super soldier.[2]
Alternate Universe Versions[]
Preventing Uncontrolled Growth[]
- "In order to prevent uncontrolled growth, the subject will then be staturated with vita rays."
- ―Abraham Erskine[src]
In an alternate universe, Steve Rogers got into the Rebirth Pod, and Abraham Erskine confirmed that Rogers was comfortable. Erskine explained to Project Rebirth's observers that the chamber would be saturating Rogers with Vita Radiation in order to prevent uncontrolled growth. Erskine put the Super Soldier Serum into the cradle and placed the injector pads on Rogers. As Howard Stark started the experiment, the chamber closed on Rogers, bombarding him with vita rays as the serum affected him. The chamber noted Rogers' heart beat momentarily start before he was revived and the Stark opened the chamber, revealing that Rogers' abilities had been enhanced.[3]
