Biography[]
Rebecca Torres was a college senior who was majoring in economics. She was hired as an assistant at a local law firm, set to begin in the fall of 1996, following a break from work, which her mother believed she deserved. However, she had been kidnapped by Marduk Kurios, who killed her. She was reported missing by her father after she failed to attend their family reunion, and her body was found by joggers days later. Although her father did not believe the police were doing enough to protect the community, the chief of police said that they were doing what they could. Torres' picture was added to a vigil outside of the police station for people whose cases were unsolved, and the police became frustrated since Helstrom had not left behind any evidence that would convict him. They established a tip line for unsolved cases like Torres'.[2]

Rebecca Torres was described by her parents as outgoing and dedicated to helping others. She was also a hard worker, as her mother explained that she needed a vacation before going into her new job at a local law firm. Already having received the job offer before she graduated showed that she was a studious person, who did well enough in school to receive such an offer early on.
