"We are so proud of you. We love you more than we could ever hope to communicate in human words."
―Rebecca Kaplan to William Kaplan[src]

Rebecca Kaplan is the wife of Jeff Kaplan and the mother of William Kaplan.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

"My mom went to see her last tour right before she died. RIP."
William Kaplan to Agatha Harkness[src]

Rebecca Kaplan watched a performance from Lorna Wu and the Coral Shore during the band's final tour.[2] In her adult life, Kaplan married a man named Jeff Kaplan and took his surname. They settled down in Eastview, New Jersey where they had a son, whom they named William. The family lived in a two-story house and had a dog named Greg.[1] As a profession, Rebecca worked as a therapist.[3]

William's Bar Mitzvah[]

On November 11, 2023,[4] Kaplan and Jeff drove to the Eastview Synagogue, where their thirteen-year-old son William was having his bar mitzvah ceremony. Kaplan and Jeff sat and watched as William recited the Parshat Shemini from the Torah. Following the ceremony, a party was held. Kaplan noticed Jeff and William sitting at a table and joined them.

She then kissed William on the cheek and told him that she and Jeff loved him more than human words could convey. As she kissed him on the cheek again, William thought she was gross, and Jeff chimed in that both of them were gross. William was then pulled away by his friend to the dance floor, where William sat in a chair as he was hoisted up.

However, the celebration was cut short when Jeff got on stage and announced that the Westview Anomaly had escalated and that Eastview citizens were asked to return home. As William asked what was going on, Kaplan told her son that they needed to leave.[1]

Car Crash[]

"Is he okay?"
"No, he's bleeding."
"What? William, can you hear me, baby?"
―Rebecca Kaplan and Jeff Kaplan[src]

As she was driving home, Jeff began changing through the radio stations, although all they could hear were prior conversations Wanda Maximoff and Vision had that were being broadcast. In frustration, Jeff slammed the radio button a few times, and Kaplan quickly grabbed her husband's hand and told him that it would be okay. Kaplan then continued to drive, but both she and her husband quickly noticed that the Hex around Westview was receding. As she was distracted looking at the Hex, Kaplan did not notice a truck which was headed their way until William yelled at her.

Kaplan quickly swerved left and drove down a bank before the car turned sideways, slamming the rear side of the car, where William was sitting, directly into a tree, with William taking the full impact of the hit. As Kaplan came to, she heard Jeff call out to William. She asked if William was okay, but Jeff informed her that William was not responding and was bleeding. This caused Kaplan to panic and she tried to open her door, although it was pinned. As Jeff attempted to call 9-1-1, Kaplan noticed an Eastview Police Department SUV driving past them and notified Jeff, who ran out to flag them. Kaplan then got out of the car through the passenger side, crying for William. She then heard William yell and was grateful that he was still alive. Jeff then returned with Officer Alice Wu-Gulliver, who asked her if William was breathing. When Kaplan confirmed that he was, Wu-Gulliver told her to not move William as an ambulance was en route.[1]

Family Troubles[]

Kaplan arrived at the Eastview General Hospital with Jeff, where she learned that William's injuries were treatable but that he suffered from amnesia. While speaking with a doctor, Rebecca remarked that William was different, and the doctor informed her that he would refer them to a psychologist. The Kaplans then entered William's hospital room, where they greeted their son. When Jeff made a remark about William not remembering that he does not call him 'buddy,' Kaplan glared at her husband and mentally inquired as to why her husband was making fun of their son in that moment. Jeff then told William that the doctor had deemed him eligible to be discharged the following morning. Kaplan quickly cut in and assured William that he would only be discharged if he was okay with it and then asked him if he was okay, which William affirmed.

The next day, the Kaplans brought William back home from the hospital. As they entered the Kaplan Residence, Rebecca remarked that it was home sweet home but that they still needed to someday renovate the bathroom. She then made her way into the kitchen when their dog Greg began barking at William. Jeff told Greg to relax as it was just William, and Kaplan suggested that perhaps the smell from the hospital was what Greg was barking at. As Kaplan filled a glass with water, she mentally remarked on the lost look on William's face and was frustrated that he was amnesiac, musing that she did not know what to do and how to fix it, and that she just wanted her son back. She then thought to herself that perhaps if William went to his room, he would remember. William then yelled at them to stop worrying and told his mother that he thought she was right and that returning to his room would jog his memories. This left Kaplan confused and stunned, as she did not say that out loud.[1]

Return to Family Life[]

"You wanna watch a movie? Psychological horror. Freaky but grounded."
―Rebecca Kaplan to William Kaplan[src]

Worried about his parents, William feigned remembering his past, and the Kaplan family soon returned to normal. By 2026, William had introduced his boyfriend Eddie to his parents. One fall night, Kaplan was sitting at home with Jeff watching television when William returned home from a date with Eddie. Kaplan asked William if he wanted to join them to watch a psychological horror movie, but William declined, citing that he had homework to do.[1]

Personality[]

"What are we supposed to do? How do we fix this? I just want him back!"
―Rebecca Kaplan[src]

Rebecca Kaplan is a woman who loved her family a lot. While at her son William's bar mitzvah ceremony, she sat and watched with a smile on her face as he read a passage from the Torah. During the party, she approached William and told him that she and Jeff loved him more than human words could convey and kissed him on the cheek. Following the car crash, which rendered William amnesiac, Kaplan struggled to deal with it as she mourned the "loss" of her son, since he could not remember her or his prior life. Just mere minutes after William's first day back home, Kaplan had thoughts where she struggled with his amnesia wondered how to fix it, and mentally yelled that she just wanted her son back. When William seemingly regained his memories, Kaplan returned to her earlier nature.

Facilities[]
