During the War on Terror, he was the CO of Frank Castle and deeply respected Frank for his determination and loyalty in the battlefield.

During an operation gone south, he lost one of his hands and Frank took command of the mission and single-handlely extracted his platoon out of the zone.

Sometime later, he and most of his servicemen returned to the United States.

  • In the comics, Ray Schoonover was the commanding officer of Frank Castle in the Vietnam War, who secretly directed an human traffic of cocaine. He tried to kill all the former members of his squad, only to be found by Castle and forced to commit suicide.
