- "You think you can go after everyone?"
"I kinda do." - ―Domingo Colon and Luke Cage[src]
The Raid of Colon's Gym was an attack on the Colon Crime Family, planned by Luke Cage, to take the Hammer Industries weapons he bought and let the NYPD seize them.
Background[]
- "I'm not asking you to get involved. I'm not even asking you to speak. I just need to borrow your eyes."
"All right. Who you looking for?"
"Domingo Colon." - ―Luke Cage and D.W. Griffith[src]
Being released from the police custody, Cottonmouth arranged a meeting with Luke Cage, informing him that he was planning to make all the information about his past life and the sentence at the Seagate Penitentiary public, unless Cage started working for Cottonmouth or either left Harlem. Cage decided to go with the latter, since he would be charged for Albert Rackham's death and his escape, but Claire Temple tried to stop him. Cage told her that Pop's death and the attack on Connie Lin would not had happened if he stayed away from Harlem, but Temple argued that Cage was the one who could bring down the Stokes Crime Family once and for all.
Knowing that Domingo Colon was involved in the dealings with Cottonmouth, Cage approached D.W. Griffith, asking him for information. Griffith knew about everything that had been going on the streets, but was hesitant to disclose anything to Cage, as he did not want to be a snitch. Cage told Griffith that not everyone deserves discretion and Griffith's direct involvement was not needed, all Cage wanted from him was to point out at the right direction. Griffith decided to help Cage and provided him with the information about the Colon Crime Family's business.[4]
Raid[]
- "I can pick you up, walk you over to the bridge and throw your ass in the Hudson. And here's the thing. It's not the fall that kills you. It's the impact against the water. And when the water fills your lungs, right before you black out, you'll ask yourself, 'Why didn't I just give Luke Cage what he wanted?'"
- ―Luke Cage to Domingo Colon[src]
With D.W. Griffith's lead, Luke Cage found Colon's Gym, which was used by the Colon Crime Family as their base, and broke inside. Cage demanded to see Domingo Colon, so he ordered his men to take Cage out, albeit unsuccessfully, due to Cage's extreme strength and durability. As Cage easuly subdued most of the mobsters, the last few aimed their guns at him, which Cage merely scoffed at. They opened fire at Cage, but all bullets just ricocheted from him, forcing Colon to hide in his office, while Cage was throwing his men across the gym with ease.
With all mobsters incapacitated, Cage cornered Colon and demanded him to tell where he stored the Hammer Industries weapons that he bought from Cottonmouth, and Chico Diaz and Shameek Smith died for. Colon refused to tell anything to Cage, but he threatened to throw Colon in the Hudson River, describing how he would die in details. Terrified of what Cage could do, Colon told him that where he stashed the guns, so Cage collect them, as well as one of the Colon's Gym sweatshirts.[4]
Aftermath[]
- "You see that van parked over there? I bet if you looked inside, it's filled with all of those Justin Hammer guns from the heist."
"You think being a vigilante makes this all right? Do you have any idea how much trouble you've caused?" - ―Luke Cage and Misty Knight[src]
Luke Cage contacted Misty Knight and arranged a meeting outside of the 29th Precinct Police Station. Cage told Knight that he brought the Hammer Industries weapons to her, but Knight was not satisfied with Cage's vigilantism, considering all the hardships she had to endure, since Cage appeared in her life. Cage then told Knight that he was preparing to take Cottonmouth down, and Knight must be ready to act when it happens, refusing Knight's demand to officially testify against Cottonmouth, due to his distrust towards the system. However, when Knight brought the guns to the precinct, the NYPD received information that Cottonmouth was found dead in Harlem's Paradise.[4]
