The "Quantum Gravity Time Travel" Universe is an alternate reality where Gert Yorkes died while defeating Morgan le Fay, leading Chase Stein to work for years to create a Quantum Gravity time machine to take him back and save Yorkes.
History[]
Founding of the Runaways[]
- "When you do things for other people, you get strength from that. From them. And no matter how many times you go down, you get right back up. Over and over, as many times as you have to."
- ―Gert Yorkes to Morgan le Fay[src]
A group of teenagers discovered that their parents, who together ran the charity organization PRIDE, were participating in a ritual in which teenagers were sacrificed. As a result, they dubbed themselves the Runaways and were forced to flee their home, where they started living in the Hostel. PRIDE member Janet Stein was kidnapped and her life was digitized, causing her to exist as a computer program. Their relationships with their parents were damaged but eased over time, and they began to face a new enemy, Morgan le Fay.[1]
Battle at the Hostel[]
Morgan le Fay planned to use Corvus phones to merge the Dark Dimension with Earth, leading the Runaways and PRIDE to create a plan in which the Runaways would pretend to submit to le Fay for long enough to distract her, allowing Janet Stein to disrupt all of the Corvus phones.
Le Fay was weakened by the deactivation of the phones, leading to a fight between her and the Runaways as Minoru and Karolina Dean protected them. Cassandra and Bronwyn appeared and attacked, and Chase Stein managed to render Cassandra unconscious. However, Bronwyn then incapacitated Stein. Bronwyn prepared to kill Geoffrey Wilder, Stacey Yorkes, Dale Yorkes, and Leslie Dean, but Alex Wilder stabbed her, killing her.
Minoru and Karolina Dean started to become overwhelmed, so Gert Yorkes rushed to Tina Minoru, who was struggling to keep the Dark Dimension at bay, and retrieved the salt needed to banish her. Le Fay overwhelmed and began to torture Dean, when Yorkes and Molly Hernandez appeared and challenged le Fay. Le Fay blasted them both backwards, causing Yorkes to get injured by a fallen chandelier. Yorkes righted herself as le Fay insulted the children, prompting Yorkes to lecture le Fay about her quest, distracting her as she dropped the salt in a circle around le Fay. Le Fay became trapped in the circle, allowing Minoru to banish her to the Dark Dimension. However, Yorkes was fatally injured by the chandelier. She died in Chase Stein's arms as Runaways and PRIDE gathered to mourn her.[1]
Moving On[]
Return to their Lives[]
- "You could have at least said goodbye."
"I didn't want you to stop me."
"I wouldn't have."
"I didn't want to stop myself." - ―Karolina Dean and Nico Minoru[src]
Over time, the Runaways and PRIDE worked to move on from Gert Yorkes' death. Nico Minoru left the Runaways to train and become better at managing her magical abilities. Alex Wilder became focused on innovation and founded Wilder Innovators, working alongside his father.
Molly Hernandez was finally able to return to school at Atlas Academy and joined the school's dance team. However, she did not want to abandon Chase Stein, who had shut herself in his room in the Hostel and became a shut-in. Karolina Dean also returned to school and attended University of California, Los Angeles. There, she met Julie and started dating her.[2]
Runaways Reunion[]
On the three-year anniversary of Gert Yorkes' death, the Runaways continued to attempt to lead their lives. Molly Hernandez approached Chase Stein, but Stein refused to leave his room. Meanwhile, Nico Minoru came to miss the Runaways as she mastered her magical abilities. She reached out to the Runaways, and they all gathered to mark the anniversary of her death. Stein began interacting with Victor Mancha, although their relationship led to Stein getting scarred.[2]
Bombing of Wilder Innovators[]
- "A bomb was placed in his office. It went off, but he survived."
- ―Chase Stein[src]
A bomb was placed in Wilder Innovators Headquarters and went off, although Alex Wilder was not killed. Wilder became angry and found out how to Time Travel, determined to kill the Runaways before the bomb as he was convinced one of them was responsible. Meanwhile, Chase Stein invented a time machine and used it to stop Wilder and hoped to save Gert Yorkes.
Stein stopped Wilder from killing the Runaways, and they teamed up with the rest of the past Runaways to save Yorkes.[2]

Behind the Scenes[]
- When asked about Gert Yorkes' death, Stephanie Savage revealed that they had a conversation about not using Time Travel to rescue her, and consequently not having the Quantum Gravity Time Travel universe in Cheat The Gallows. She specifically noted, "It’s something that the comics did give us license to do, if we wanted to. We were just, I guess, too soft-hearted and too in love with our characters."[3]
