The Planetary Shield was a protective shield used by Xandar to keep the planet isolated from Ronan the Accuser.
History[]
- "Ronan and his forces attacked, bringing Xandar to the verge of destruction. Out of options, Nova Prime made a desperate call. She locked down Xandar behind an impenetrable planetary shield designed to last for fifty years, putting the planet out of his reach. Xandar was saved for the time being. But at what cost? Five years in, isolation has brought out the worst in all of us."

Besieged by Ronan the Accuser, a desperate Irani Rael implemented the shield around Xandar, saving the planet from invasion by Ronan but isolating it. Over the next five years, Xandar fell into dark days under the shield with people giving in to their worst impulses.
Five years later, Rael decided to betray her people and surrender the planet to Ronan in exchange for being allowed to continue to rule Xandar. Rael made a deal with Ronan, but she required a cyborg's help in order to get the codes for the shield generator from the Xandarian Mainframe Core so she tricked Nebula into helping her out. Rael successfully opened the shield, allowing Ronan access to the planet. However, Nebula had anticipated her betrayal and put her own twist on the shield codes, resulting in the shields quickly closing again. Having already entered the planet's atmosphere, the Dark Aster was caught between the closing halves of the shield and destroyed, killing Ronan and ending his threat to Xandar for good.
Following the deaths of Ronan and Irani Rael, the shield was reopened permanently, ending Xandar's dark days and isolation from the rest of the universe.[1]
