Pizza Poppa is a pizza purveyor from the New York City of Earth-838. In 2024, Pizza Poppa met with America Chavez and Doctor Strange, two multiversal travelers, when the former stole one of his pizza balls. The altercation resulted in Strange casting a spell to make Pizza Poppa hit himself for three weeks.
Biography[]
Encounter with Strange and Chavez[]
In 2024, Pizza Poppa was selling his own pizza balls in New York City. Suddenly, when Doctor Strange and America Chavez, two multiversal travelers, walked near his stall, Chavez stole one of Pizza Poppa's pizza balls, as she assured Strange that food in other universes is free. However, Pizza Poppa realized the theft and demanded Chavez and Strange to pay him, leading Chavez to realize that food isn't free in the universe they were in.
Strange tried to appease the situation, but Pizza Poppa saw that he was dressed like his world's greatest fallen hero. Unaware that he was talking to an alternate Doctor Strange, Pizza Poppa assumed this Strange to have stolen the clothing of his Strange displayed at the museum and threatened to squirt mustard on Strange's face. Unfazed, Strange cast a spell that made Poppa squirt the mustard on his own face and then punch himself to the face restlessly. Chavez asked Strange how long the spell would last, leading Strange to assure her that it would last for three weeks.[1]
Three weeks later, Pizza Poppa was still punching himself in the face until the spell faded out and he stopped. Overjoyed that the spell's influence was no longer upon himself, Poppa laughed maniacally and exclaimed that it was over.[2]
Personality[]
Pizza Poppa respected the Doctor Strange in his universe immensely, being hostile towards the other Doctor Strange as he thought Strange stole his native Strange's clothing. He also could not tolerate theft, as he first demanded America Chavez to pay for the pizza balls and later threatened to squirt mustard on the two multiversal trespassers’ faces.

Trivia[]
- Pizza Poppa punching himself to the face and later proclaiming happily that he stopped hurting himself is a reference to Bruce Campbell's character Ash Williams from Sam Raimi's Evil Dead franchise, who hacks his own hand off to prevent demon possession in Evil Dead II.
- Pizza Poppa is the second character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe to break the fourth wall, after Groot.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Pizza Poppa is the fourth role Bruce Campbell has in a Marvel film, after his three cameos in Sam Raimi's Spider-Man trilogy from Sony Pictures Entertainment.
- In a November 2023 interview, Campbell disclosed the possibility that, given the existence of the Multiverse and how Raimi's Spider-Man films are part of it, that Pizza Poppa and his Spider-Man trilogy roles of the Ring Announcer, the Snooty Usher and the Maître d' are the same character.[3]
