Sam Wilson was jogging the four-mile perimeter of the National Mall in Washington, D.C., encountering Steve Rogers mid-run. Rogers passed from behind him 3 times, eventually causing Wilson to speed up as well as an attempt to match the faster runner. When he completed his miles, Wilson rested on a tree, and the two met once more, Rogers concerned for the others' health. They soon entered conversation, discussing their experiences as soldiers. As the conversation continued, the topic shifted to Rogers' defrosting and sixty six-year gap of when he was frozen in the Arctic Sea after crashing the Valkyrie. After thinking for a second, Wilson recommends Rogers the Marvin Gaye 1972 Trouble Man soundtrack, Rogers nodding and writing it in his notebook.
Their brief conversation ends whenever Rogers gets a notification for an upcoming mission, Natasha Romanoff picking him up in a black Chevrolet Corvette Stingray. As Rogers approached the car, Wilson and Romanoff engaged in semi-flirtatious small talk, Wilson star-struck at meeting two Avengers at once. Romanoff and Rogers drive off, Wilson continuing about his day.
After a mobile satellite launch platform, the Lemurian Star was hijacked, a S.H.I.E.L.D. Quinjet hovered over it, aiming to recapture the ship. The Quinjet contained Captain Rogers, Romanoff, and a STRIKE team consisting of Brock Rumlow, Jack Rollins, and several other unnamed agents. S.H.I.E.L.D. had launched a rescue mission for the hostages that were on board. The hostages mostly consisted of mostly techs, along with one officer, Jasper Sitwell.
The Lemurian Star was taken by Georges Batroc his team consisting of twenty five other pirates. Batroc had been secretly hired by Nick Fury. The group held a billion and a half dollar ransom on the ship and its hostages, knowing it belonged to S.H.I.E.L.D. Rogers confirmed with Natasha that the communication channels were secure, soon receiving an attempt of matchmaking from Natasha. Declining her help, he left, jumping out of the Quinjet and into the Indian Ocean. He lacked a parachute, to the surprise of Rollins and amusement of Rumlow.
After climbing up the hull of the Lemurian Star, Rogers began to take out the pirates, moving counterclockwise around the deck. Two of Batroc's mercenaries caught him just as he had almost cleared the full route around the deck, both soon being shot by a descending Rumlow before they could cause any harm to Rogers. Romanoff and the rest of the STRIKE Team soon followed after him, the STRIKE Team splitting up to re-capture the galley of the ship where the hostages were being held while Natasha moved to secure the engine room. As she removed her parachute and walked to drop to the lower deck, she asked Rogers about yet another potential love interest. He declined her offer, and the two separated to continue their mission.
In the galley of the Lemurian Star, several of Batroc's restless mercenaries argued over what to do with the incapacitated hostages, including officer Sitwell, while they were waiting for the ransom money. One began to insist that they would receive the money from S.H.I.E.L.D. when they began to execute the hostages, meanwhile patrolling the row of prisoners. He kicked Sitwell's foot, threatening to shoot him in the head, but the highly trained officer did not react, knowing a rescue mission would be in action soon.
Captain Rogers used a disk containing a speaker to spy on mercenaries in the bridge tower, listening in as they complained about the wait, then called to a mercenary in the engine room to start the engines. When the receiving mercenary turned to follow the order, he encountered Romanoff, who quickly took him down and moved to capture the rest of the engine room.
When the impatient mercenary got sick of yelling at the hostages, he began to pound on the door, demanding another mercenary to find and bring Batroc. He decided to only spend 2 more minutes waiting for the ransom payment before he would begin to kill them. The other mercenary turned to leave, but was soon stunned and knocked unconscious by Rumlow, who was using a Taser Rod. After the two minutes was up, the mercenary went to kill a random hostage, but the STRIKE Team intervened, killing all of the mercenaries in the galley at once. The hostages were freed and safely extracted from the ship.
