Past Life is the tenth episode of the fifth season of Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.
Synopsis[]
The team has one final chance to return to the timeline, but their actions may have deadly consequences.
Plot[]
While Zephyr One returns to the Lighthouse, the Kree Watch discovers Sinara's body and searches the plane for the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, who escaped using the plane's Containment Module, leaving only Enoch hidden in the plane in preparation for the activation of the Time Di'Alla. The team splits up to achieve their different objectives and Yo-Yo Rodriguez decides to find an Inhuman who is still being tortured by the Kree Watch according to Tess.
Kasius orders his Kree Doctor to revive Sinara and executes him when the Doctor admits he cannot do so. Kasius then has Tye brought to him and makes him drink Odium before he goes fighthing the S.H.I.E.L.D. agents, hoping to kill them before the Earth is destroyed in their time so that Kasius' father could seize the planet intact. Tye faces Phil Coulson and Daisy Johnson and he manages to wound Coulson before Johnson kills him. Coulson, Johnson, Melinda May and Deke Shaw later find Tess and help her put the survivors of the Lighthouse in the safety of the Trawler.
Rodriguez finds the prisoner Tess told her about, who is none other than the future version of Rodriguez, who lived through the original timeline where the Earth was destroyed: she was captured by the Kree Watch and repeatedly killed and revived through Kree science, and used as Kasius' own seer. The future Rodriguez warns her past self that S.H.I.E.L.D. triggers the destruction of Earth by returning in their time and choosing to save Coulson, who has been somehow infected by his wound. According to the future Rodriguez, the team must let Coulson die to save the world. As the Kree Watch arrives, the future Rodriguez tells the past one to leave.
Enoch informs the team that he has eventually been found by the Kree and that he can only withstand their assault for minutes. Shaw decides to assist him, bidding farewell to the rest of the team. Elsewhere in the Lighthouse, Leo Fitz and Jemma Simmons find Alphonso Mackenzie and Flint, the four of them reaching Kasius' Suites. Meanwhile, terrified at the idea that she could destroy the Earth if she returns in the past, Johnson decides to remain in the Lighthouse. However, Coulson refuses to leave her behind and shoots Johnson with an I.C.E.R.. Then, they find the rest of their friends in the Suites and Flint manages to build the Time Di'Alla.
Shaw rescues a wounded Enoch and they discover that the machine they intended to use is too damaged. Enoch offers to sacrifice himself to power the whole equipment, although it would also kill the one activating the process. Nonetheless, Shaw agrees to give his life as well. Meanwhile, Mackenzie goes to find Rodriguez. Kasius confronts him in the Crater and slits the future Rodriguez's throat. Kasius then drinks his vial of Odium and ragingly fights against Mackenzie. Simmons intervenes before Mackenzie is killed, injecting Kasius with a deafening implant extracted from Ava and enabling Mackenzie to slay the Kree overlord. The past Rodriguez finds them and they all run back to the Suites.
As they are running out of time, Shaw decides to activate the time portal. The Time Di'Alla turns into its liquid form and absorbs the S.H.I.E.L.D. team. The activation of the Monolith triggers a massive explosion which is witnessed by Tess, Flint, Ava and the other refugees from the Trawler.
