Ouroboros is the first episode of the second season of Loki.
Synopsis[]
Loki finds himself lost to time and torn, quite literally, between past, present and future.
Plot[]
Mobius M. Mobius, alongside Minutemen, set chase after an unsettled Loki, still trying to convince him they know each other. Loki, hearing Mobius confirm once again that he doesn't, leaps into a mail cart that crashes into the Time Variance Authority Office's lower level after hitting a statue with He Who Remains' likeness, seemingly a variant who is the Time Variance Authority's new ruler. Loki meets Casey, who also doesn't remember him. After an alert sounds a "level five intruder", Casey reports that he has found said intruder, after which Loki grotesquely distorts into the future. In it, he meets Casey again, now remembering him and leading him to Mobius and Hunter B-15 in Chrono Bay Three. Hearing Loki's screams, Casey looks back only to see nothing.
Mobius and B-15, notified of Loki's sudden reappearance after discussing the branching timelines, are called to a hearing inside the War Room. Loki follows them, only to glitch into the past once again to view He Who Remains' likeness engraved upon the room's wall. While B-15 argues to let the branching timelines be to let the people existing within them live their lives, Loki listens to recordings of He Who Remains conversing with Ravonna Renslayer, but glitches back into the present instantaneously when Judge Gamble declares the TVA to stop its pruning of timelines. Explaining to Mobius that he and Sylvie Laufeydottir found He Who Remains, Loki uses a Time Stick to prune a wall depicting the Time-Keepers to reveal the one he had seen in the past showing He Who Remains. While Loki is brought outside the War Room after warning everyone inside of a million-man army heading their way, General Dox has Hunter X-05 gather a team setting out to find Laufeydottir.
Detailing what occurred at the Citadel at the End of Time, Loki is questioned how he appeared in the room so suddenly. Mobius reacts in disbelief to Loki's answer, which implies that there are pasts and futures present within the TVA, said to be locked outside space and time. Loki distorts again, prompting Mobius' decision to bring him to Repairs & Advancement. There, Ouroboros, nicknamed "O.B.", greets Mobius first, whom he hasn't seen in about 400 years. Loki is pulled to the past again, leading to Mobius' question on how to fix what Ouroboros calls "Time Slipping", supposedly impossible to occur within the TVA. Loki and Mobius are simultaneously told by present- and past-Ouroboros. how to fix Loki's condition, with Loki altering the past to his benefit. The plan is to have Loki prune himself, using the Temporal Aura Extractor to pull raw time such as Loki out of the Temporal Loom, which refines it into a physical timeline. If all fails, Loki and Mobius risk spaghettification and severe desquamation, respectively. With Loki time slipping back to the present, the lamp on Ouroboros' desk starts flickering. Mobius informs him of constant power surges affecting the TVA, much to Ouroboros' concern.
Along with B-15, the three head towards the Temporal Loom, overloading because of the branching and thus affecting the TVA negatively. Seeing as how the pruning of the branches would cost the lives of many, Ouroboros suggests launching the Extractor inside the Temporal Loom's chamber before the closing of the blast doors, designed to protect the TVA Office. Loki needs to prune himself within moments after a timer he is given turns green. With five minutes left, Loki time slips to the future and scours the office for a Time Stick, to no avail. Failing to prune himself the minute the timer turned green, Loki follows the sound of a telephone ringing down a hallway. Out of a door climbs Laufeydottir, and Loki is pruned all of a sudden, hurdled out of the Temporal Loom at last and landing inside its control room with Mobius, whom he was thrown at. With Loki fixed, he immediately states finding Laufeydottir is in order, while B-15 and Hunter D-90 observe a squad entering a Timedoor determined to find Laufeydottir as well.
Laufeydottir finds herself in Broxton, Oklahoma in an alternate 1982, entering a McDonald's restaurant where she asks for something not pertaining the likes of squirrels, possums or rats, and preferably something already dead and without a face. Jack, the cashier, lists available meals, to which Laufeydottir replies that she wants to try 'everything.'
