"The conviction of the elders of K'un-Lun was always unwavering. They think it's a virtue. But in the end, all it ever did was make them predictable. They've locked it away. But a lock is not a lock without a key. And from the beginning, they have valued one thing."
Alexandra Reid to Madame Gao[src]

The Order of the Crane Mother, also known as the Elders of K'un-Lun, is an ancient warrior monk society based in K'un-Lun. The Order trains its members in martial arts in order to fight the Hand. The Order also appointed the Iron Fist to protect the city of K'un-Lun and destroy the Hand. The last Iron Fist, Danny Rand, abandoned his position and left K'un-Lun unguarded, which lead to an attack by the Hand and the disappearance of the city.

History[]

When the Order of the Crane Mother gathered in K'un-Lun to study the Chi force for healing purposes, five of them wanted to use the power to gain immortality. The Order saw this as desecration, so they banished them from K'un-Lun. The five, Alexandra, Gao, Bakuto, Murakami and Sowande, would form the Hand, an organization dedicated to gaining immortality through the use of a Resurrection Elixir, made from the bones of dead dragons.[1] The Order became the enemy of the Hand, so they trained its members and the Iron Fists to destroy the organization.[2]

In 1948, an Iron Fist guarded the entrance of K'un-Lun from Chinese soldiers.[3]

Years later, a young boy named Danny Rand crashed with his parents plane in the Himalayas. The monks Chodak and Tashi found Rand and brought him to K'un-Lun. Over the years, Rand was trained by the Order and became a skilled fighter.[2] The Order found Rand worthy to be the Iron Fist, so when Rand defeated Shou-Lao, he was gained the power of the Iron Fist, the protector of K'un-Lun.[4] However, Rand abandoned his position when the gates to Earth reopened and he left to New York City.[5] Davos was sent by the Order to retrieve Rand back, but he failed to do so.[6]

With K'un-Lun exposed to attacks, the Hand attacked the city and its inhabitants, making the city disappear.[4]
