One Last Shot is the twelveth episode of the third season of the television series Daredevil.
Synopsis[]
Fisk's long-awaited reunion doesn't go as planned. Nelson and Murdock take on a new client who holds key information on Fisk.
Plot[]
Wilson Fisk and Vanessa Marianna finally reunite, although Fisk is informed that Ray Nadeem managed to survive the attack and escape. He does not let the unforunate news to ruin the moment he was waiting for, so he orders his men to hunt Nadeem down and greets Marianna. Fisk brings Marianna to the Presidential Hotel where Benjamin Poindexter tries to talk with him about the current situation, but Fisk tells him not to interrupt them. Marianna is impressed by the preparations Fisk put into their reunion, but she is too exhausted from being abroad and cannot enjoy her time with him at the moment. Fisk is understanding, although he cannot shake the feeling of Marianna being estranged from him.
Matt Murdock, Foggy Nelson, and Brett Mahoney bring Nadeem and his family to Bess Mahoney's house to hide them from Fisk. Seema is disappointed in Ray for his constant dishonesty and how it put their family in the danger, but Nadeem promises to fix everything. Murdock tells Nadeem that he is going to testify against Fisk in front of the grand jury, with Nelson and Murdock as his legal representatives.
Murdock brings Nadeem at Fogwell's Gym to work on the case and he apologizes to Karen Page for ignoring her warnings about Fisk, but she does not want to talk about it. Murdock and Page contemplate how to protect Nadeem and his family, as the witness protection was not an option, so they decide to cover Nadeem's flight to India. Nadeem appreciates the effort they put for him, although he thinks that he does not deserve their kindness, but Page reminds him that his mistakes do not define him as a person.
Nelson approaches Blake Tower and asks him for an audience with Nadeem in exchange for dropping out of the race for the District Attorney. Nelson tells him that Fisk is threatening his family, so if he wins the election, Fisk will gain a leverage on the District Attorney. Nelson assures Tower that he would drop out regardless, but they have a chance to take Fisk down, so Tower reluctantly agrees. Meanwhile, Nadeem deeply regrets all the decisions he made, and Murdock suddenly accuses him of letting Fisk get to him. Nadeem breaks down and admits to all of his wrongdoings and Murdock reveals that it was a preparation for the meeting with the DA.
In the wake of his failure, Poindexter tries to get back at Fisk's favor and suggests giving him another shot at killing Page. However, Fisk refuses to sent him after Page again, to Poindexter's great frustration.
At the meeting, Nelson and Murdock inform Tower that Fisk organized a massive criminal conspiracy that involved the FBI and that Nadeem witnessed everything firsthand. Nadeem told Tower everything he knew about Fisk's conspiracy and Nelson and Murdock offer an official testimony in exchange of full immunity. Tower argues that as an accessory to multiple homicides, Nadeem must be imprisoned, which does not satisfy Nelson and Murdock. Nadeem, however, agrees to Tower's conditions, so Fisk could be taken down and his family could be safe again.
Fisk makes breakfast for Marianna, so they could spend some time together after Marianna's return to New York City. Fisk notices that something has been bothering Marianna and she tells him how during her time abroad, she felt incredibly lonely. Now that she is back with Fisk, Marianna still cannot shake that feeling, because Fisk is too focused on his personal business that he does not let Marianna in. Felix Manning interrupts them that Nadeem intends to testify against Fisk in front of the grand jury, and that he works together with Daredevil. Fisk orders Manning to use all resources at their disposals and prevent Nadeem from testifying at all costs.
Page goes to meet with Mitchell Ellison who is happy to see Page alive and well after what happened at the Clinton Church. Page tells Ellison that Poindexter was the Daredevil impostor who attacked the New York Bulletin and is working on Fisk's behalf. She also tells Ellison that Nadeem is going to testify and asks him to call a press conference, so she could make her own statement about Fisk and his crimes.
In an attempt to please Fisk, Poindexter returns the Rabbit in a Snowstorm painting back to him and introduces himself to Marianna, asking her to think of him as new James Wesley. Talking about Fisk's art preferences, Marianna asks how did Poindexter get the painting back, considering that Esther Falb refused any of Fisk's offers. Poindexter tells Marianna that he can be rather convincing, but she notices the traces of blood on the painting's frame, realizing what kind of a person Poindexter is.
Nelson and Murdock organize the transportion of Nadeem to the New York State Supreme Court Building, sending the NYPD convoy as a distraction for Fisk's men, while Murdock and Nadeem take an ordinary van. Nadeem talks with Murdock about his life as Daredevil, and that even despite him having a double life, he still has people close to him, while the change in Nadeem's life practically ruined him. Suddenly, Murdock senses that a group of the armed mercenaries surrounding them, so they cooperate to survive the attack and get to the courthouse in one piece.
They manage to get to the courthouse and with Tower's help, Nadeem finally gives his official testimony in front of the grand jury. Page then makes a statement to the press about Fisk's manipulation and the murders he committed to conceal the truth, while also stating that his accomplies tried to defame Daredevil by killing innocent people. However, their victory slips away, as Murdock realizes that Fisk managed to get to the jurors and forced them to disregard Nadeem's testimony. Nelson promises to Nadeem that they will work something out, but Nadeem suddenly knocks Nelson out and escapes.
Fisk notices the painting is at the penthouse and Marianna tells him that Poindexter got it back, before Fisk notices Falb's blood on the frame. Marianna asks Fisk should they be concerned about Poindexter, but Fisk assures her that everything is under his control. Marianna voices her frustration over Fisk not letting her into another part of his life, convincing Fisk that she wants to share everything with him. Fisk lets Marianna into his secret quarters where Manning informs Fisk that Nadeem's testimony was dismissed, although Nadeem still remains a liability. Fisk decides to have Nadeem stand trial for Winn's murder to further discredit him, but Marianna suggests that Nadeem is too dangerous and must be eliminated.
Nadeem returns to his family house where he records a message for Seema and Sami, knowing that his fate is sealed. Sent by Fisk and Marianna, Poindexter confronts Nadeem at the backyard and tells Nadeem to go back inside, but he says that Poindexter has to do what he intends there. Nadeem tries to reason with Poindexter one last time, saying that they can take him down together, but Poindexter refuses, saying that Fisk made him feel himself. Poindexter then executes Nadeem with a headshot, leaving his body behind. Mahoney informs Nelson about Nadeem's death and Murdock realizes that the law cannot defeat Fisk, so he must do it on his own.
