Olek Maximoff was the husband of Iryna Maximoff and the father of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Olek Maximoff married a woman named Iryna. In 1989, they had twin children, Pietro and Wanda Maximoff.[1]
Death[]
In 1999, Olek returned home and was greeted by Iryna Maximoff. Pietro Maximoff then hugged his father as they prepared for movie night. Pietro reminded them that they could only speak English on those nights. When Wanda Maximoff came in, she chose the show she always picked, The Dick van Dyke Show. Olek grabbed it out of the closet and sat down with Iryna to watch. The family smiled and laughed throughout the episode. Suddenly, a Stark Industries missile hit the house, killing Olek and Iryna instantly.[1][2]
Legacy[]
Maximoff and his wife's death angered Wanda and Pietro Maximoff, causing them to develop a hatred for the Sokovian government, as well as Tony Stark, the man who designed the bomb which killed them. They organized protests[3] and were recruited unknowingly to join HYDRA,[4] where they received superpowers.[5] They fought against Stark and joined Ultron in his quest for revenge against him, but later turned against Ultron and joined the Avengers once they learned that he intended to destroy humanity.[3]
Maximoff was recreated in an illusion cast by Agatha Harkness as an attempt at discovering where Wanda's powers came from. Harkness and Wanda rewatched the memory of Maximoff's death, and noticed that a second bomb did not go off. Harkness guessed that the trauma activated her powers.[2]
Abilities[]
- Bilingualism: Maximoff was fluent in his native Sokovian and English, though he spoke the latter with a dense Eastern European accent.

- Maximoff Residence: Maximoff lived with his family at their home in Novi Grad, Sokovia. On one of the family's movie nights, several Stark Industries mortar shells hit the building, killing Maximoff and his wife.

- In the comics, Pietro and Wanda were adopted by their maternal uncle Django Maximoff, who raised them with his wife Marya after the death of his sister. After Django and Marya's death, Pietro and Wanda had other adoptive fathers, like the American superhero Whizzer and the mutant terrorist Magneto.
