- "We're goin' back to Atlas Academy."
- ―Alex Wilder
Old School is the fourth episode of the second season of the television series Runaways.
Synopsis[]
Topher Vasquez helps the kids break into Atlas Academy, but the plan is blown when Dale and Stacey trigger an earthquake and the parents rush to the scene. Jonah’s body continues to break down as he leads Karolina into the hole.
Plot[]
The Runaways debate over what to do with Topher Vasquez's unexpected arrival in the Hostel. As they hesitate over keeping him or sending him away, they witness him using superhuman abilities similar to Molly Hernandez's, who convinces that Vasquez should stay. The Runaways reluctantly agree and let him sleep in the Hostel under Old Lace's guard, but Vasquez manages to sneak out anyway and brings some food to get accepted. Topher explains that he knows who the teenagers are, but that he will not betray them, as he can help them as long as they allow him to sleep under a roof.
Despite this distraction, Alex Wilder remains focused on the fight against PRIDE. Alex intends to hack into the PRIDE Construction Site's systems, but for this he needs an advanced computer the Runaways can easily procure in one place: their former school, Atlas Academy. Alex plans on using Vasquez as a means to steal the computer. All the Runaways go with them, except for Karolina Dean, who goes in another secret meeting with Jonah, who is feeling sicker despite having built a new Dematerialization Box. While going to Atlas Academy, Nico Minoru attempts to befriend Vasquez to know more about him.
Meanwhile, PRIDE faces some internal dissensions. Geoffrey Wilder is outraged that his wife Catherine murdered Darius Davis, while Tina Minoru admits that she handed over the Staff of One to Nico. Still, they continue to work together, and Dale and Stacey Yorkes announce that they will go on the construction site to test their Anti-Gibborim Serum. The rest of PRIDE works on finding the Runaways, which brings them to interrogate two potential witnesses, Jules and Mike on a Bike, although they learn very little.
The Yorkeses successfully test their serum, but it also causes an earthquake, which diversely affects the Runaways and PRIDE. With the mission becoming more complicated, the Runaways infiltrate into Atlas Academy. However, Gert Yorkes is recognized by the nurse Wilson who she went to hoping to get some meds, and the nurse alerts PRIDE. Knowing that they do not have much time, the Runaways are forced to flee when their parents arrive. Nevertheless, Vasquez was able to steal the computer, thus completing the mission.
Back at the Hostel, the Runaways thank Vasquez for his assistance and begin to trust him. However, Nico is still defiant and confronts him about the fact that he uses strange grinded rocks to gain his powers, meaning that he is not as similar to Hernandez as he would want them to believe. Nico thus demands to know how Vasquez gained his powers in the first place. Meanwhile, the Yorkeses are surprised to see Jonah and Karolina arrive on the dig site to investigate the cause of the earthquake. Once the Yorkeses are gone, Jonah offers to take Dean into the hole, and she eventually accepts.
