The Odyssey Diner was owned by Curtis Stein, whose son Victor often visited the restaurant and spent time there doing his homework. Working at the restaurant was one of few times Curtis was not drunk, and Victor enjoyed eating a Philly cheesesteak and a milkshake there with his otherwise abusive father.[1]
Victor Stein's Memories[]
Victor Stein was ashamed of his father's status, so he told people, including his wife Janet, that his father was a banker. Since Stein associated the Odyssey Diner with the few times he could enjoy being near his father, his hippocampus created it as the world Stein was put into when Jonah put him into the Healing Algorithm when he got shot. Jonah had Stein sit in the restaurant, offering him a Philly cheesesteak and a milkshake and asking him to do work to help build a new Dematerialization Box.[1] Stein was upset that the Algorithm used real cheese for the cheesesteak, although his wife changed that for him.[2]
