"And so Loki died of his wounds, giving his life for ours. He fought back those disgusting Dark Elves. He brought peace to the realm. Loki, my boy... 'Twas many moons ago I found you on a frost-bitten battlefield. On that day, I did not yet see in you Asgard's savior. No. You were merely a little blue baby icicle, that melted this old fool's heart."
―Odin actor[src]

An Asgardian Actor portrayed Odin in The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard and Hela's On Earth: Ragnarok in the Round.

Biography[]

The actor was cast to play a fictionalised version of King Odin in The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard. In the play, Odin appears at the end to tell of how Loki gave his life to save Asgard from the Dark Elves and bring peace to the realm. He then speaks to an apparition of Loki as a child and recounts having his heart melted by the child upon finding him after the Battle of Jotunheim. The actor performed this many times. One time he was performing the play, when Prince Thor returned to Asgard. The actor then witnessed him force the real Odin to reveal that he was in fact Prince Loki in disguise.[1]

The Actor would go on to survive Hela's attack on Asgard and the planet's total destruction at the hands of Surtur, the actor having boarded the starship Statesman before the planet's decimation. The actor would also survive Thanos' siege on the ship, in which half of the Asgardians were wiped out, and later survive the event that wiped out half of the survivors. He would go with the survivors to Norway on Earth and reunite with Thor in New Asgard.

Seven years later, the actor would reprise his role of Odin for New Asgard Tours in Hela's On Earth: Ragnarok in the Round. He was reunited with the actors that had portrayed Thor and Adult Loki in The Tragedy of Loki of Asgard. They had also been asked to reprise their roles.

Behind the Scenes[]

  • Despite appearing in Thor: Ragnarok, Sam Neill confessed that he didn't really understand the Marvel Cinematic Universe films: "I'm not really entirely nerdishly [into] the Marvel franchise. I was completely baffled by so many things. I went with friends who sort of knew a bit more than me. I was like, 'Do you know what planet we're on at the moment? Is that Hopkins or was that Loki?' And they were explaining it, they said, 'You're in the film! Why do we have to explain it to you?' I said, 'Because I'm a bit lost. I'm truly lost here.' I shouldn't really confess to that. I should really know what's going on. [Laughs] It is a strange - it looks like Tony Hopkins, but it's not!".[2]
  • Bobby Winch was a stand-in for Sam Neill in the role of Odin.
