Biography[]
King of Asgard[]
Subjugation of the Nine Realms[]
- "In a campaign of fire and blood, King Odin sought to unite the Nine Realms under the Throne of Asgard. His chief weapon in the conquest that built his empire, his executioner, and first-born daughter, Hela, the Goddess of Death. One by one, the branches of the World's Tree fell under their control."
- ―The Watcher[src]
Odin ruled over Asgard as its King and raised a daughter, Hela. While Hela played with Fenris, Odin put a chain on the wolf, telling Hela that she must tame her threats so they could fight for her. At that moment, Odin turned Hela into a fighter and eventually made her his executioner. Together, they set out on a campaign to unite the Nine Realms under Asgard's rule, which entailed a high amount of violence and death.[1]
Banishing Hela[]
Once the Nine Realms were all conquered, Odin, who had also began a relationship with Frigga, had decided to end his campaign and focus now on peace. However, Hela's ambitions grew beyond Odin's so she rebelled against him, attacking him with Mjølnir. Odin caught Mjølnir and destroyed it, telling Hela that she needed an appreciation for life. Odin stripped Hela of her power, removing her crown and then banished her to Earth. Odin enchanted Hela's crown so that it could only be worn if the wearer knew mercy, and then sent it to Earth.[1]
Battle for the Ten Rings[]
Odin was informed by Heimdall that he could no longer see Hela, which lead to Odin believing that his daughter had been killed by the humans. Heimdall revealed to Odin that Xu Wenwu possessed the Ten Rings, stating that they could kill gods. Odin decided that no mortal should wield such power, so he decided to go to Earth and claim the weapons.
Odin arrived in China outside of the Ten Rings Headquarters, where he commenced an attack against Xu. Odin stood at a distance and watched the battle until Hela appeared and helped Xu. Odin joined the battlefield and expressed his surprise at Hela's survival. He then ordered Hela to return to his side, but she refused. This angered Odin, who Hela called out for casting her out when he no longer needed her as a weapon, despite that being all she was made for in his campaign.
Odin then fought against Hela and Xu, who attempted to seperate Odin from Gungnir. Odin commented that he should have locked Hela away rather than banish her. Odin was eventually disarmed by Hela, who attempted to show mercy, but Odin attacked her and questioned her change of heart. At that moment, Hela's crown returned to her, along with her power, and she defeated Odin. Amazed by his daughter's growth, Odin gave Hela the throne, and she used it to liberate the Nine Realms along with the rest of the universe.[1]
