Obadiah Stane is the former COO of Stark Industries who cooperated with the Ten Rings in an attempt to kill Tony Stark. However, Stane's plans were exposed by Erik Stevens, who served undercover within the Ten Rings, which resulted in Stane's arrest.

Working with the Ten Rings[]
In 2008, Obadiah Stane bankrolled the Ten Rings' plans for Tony Stark's assassination, which was initiated at Kunar.
After Erik Killmonger compromised those plans by rescuing Stark, Stane was in attendance when Stark appointed Killmonger as Stark Industries's new chief security officer at the eyes of various reporters. When Christine Everhart then asked of Killmonger's business at Kunar, while Stane tried to leave and told Everhart that they had finished for that day, Killmonger revealed Stane's involvement with the plans of Stark's assassination as Obadiah anxiously failed to shush him, leaving the crowd in shock. Obadiah denied Killmonger's allegations, trying to compromise with Stark. Proving his claims to be true, Killmonger showed receipts, wire transfers, bank documents, and phone records.
Disgusted at his associate's betrayal, Tony ordered his security to take Stane away. Unwilling to be arrested and with nothing to lose, Stane pushed a security guard but was swiftly knocked out by Happy Hogan seconds afterwards, as Hogan had never particularly liked him. Stane was taken into custody afterwards.[1]
