"With great power comes great respect. And if you don't have respect, you have nothing."
―Norman Osborn to Peter Parker[src]

Norman Virgil Osborn is the founding CEO of Oscorp and one of the most famous figures in New York City. When his son Harry Osborn got rescued by Spider-Man, Osborn showed interest in an up-and-coming superhero and sought to mentor him. He recruited a number of young prodigies across New York that he suspected to be Spider-Man, offering them an internship at Oscorp, and soon discovered that Spider-Man was Peter Parker. Osborn became Parker's closest ally, providing him with an upgraded Spider-Man Suit and his assistance, as the two sought to bring down Otto Octavius. However, Osborn also pursued his own agenda behind Parker's back, such as attempting to replicate Spider-Man's enhanced DNA. When Osborn's Project Monolith backfired and almost led to a symbiote invasion, his company received a major backlash and Parker quit the internship, although Osborn found a lost symbiote piece at the wreckage.

Biography[]

This is an in-depth biography of Norman Osborn/Norman Osborn-Mentored Spider-Man. For an abridged overview, see Marvel Database's article on the same character.

Early Life[]

Building Oscorp[]

"I started Oscorp to be a leader in the industries I believe will define the future."
―Norman Osborn[src]

Norman Osborn was married to a woman named Emily and the two had a son Harry, although Emily would eventually be gone from their lives so Osborn had to raise his son on his own. He founded Oscorp, bringing the most brilliant and promising scientists he could find into the fold, one of which being Otto Octavius. Impressed by Octavius' vision, Osborn worked with him on numerous projects, including a modular smart alloy for the military.[2]

Working with Otto Octavius[]

"One of the last conversations I had with Otto was about gamma. He argued that we were holding ourselves back by not experimenting with its properties. I put my foot down... and he called me a coward."
―Norman Osborn to Peter Parker[src]

However, Octavius' ambitions got the best of him and he argued with Osborn, pushing for experimenting with gamma radiation, which Osborn refused due to high potential risks. Octavius called Osborn a coward and quit Oscorp out of spite, taking some of the designs they worked on with him and went off the grid.[3] As the CEO of Oscorp, Osborn became one of the most prominent figures in New York City, meeting and taking photos with Captain America and King T'Chaka.[4]
