"He is not mad. He is burdened. Look, he sees things in dimensions that we can only imagine. You look at a field of grass, you see pretty picture. He sees biology, phytochemistry. Keeping his gifts from overwhelming him... This requires discipline, stability. Since Leviathan took his family, stability does not come easy."
Viktor Ivchenko to Peggy Carter[src]

Doctor Nikola Asimov was a Soviet scientist imprisoned by Leviathan.

Biography[]

Leviathan's Prisoner[]

"Okay, you understand light is both particles and waves? Mr. Stark has found a way of altering the behavior of the waves."
"Stark."
"Yeah. Of course. It's his design right here."
―Nikola and Jack Thompson[src]

Known as a brilliant scientist and engineer, Asimov lived in Kiev, Ukraine, before he was kidnapped by the Leviathan. As Asimov's wife was also kidnapped and used as a leverage, he was forced into constructing weapons, based on Howard Stark's designs. Due to his fragile mind which needed to be kept under control, Viktor Ivchenko stayed with Nikola as his friend and psychiatrist.[2]

Rescued by the SSR[]

"У меня три американца. Освободи меня и моего друга, и они все твои.[3]"
―Nikola[src]

As Asimov and Viktor Ivchenko were locked in the cell at the Red Room Academy, a group of SSR agents and the Howling Commandos infiltrated the facility and found their cell. Ivchenko explained to Peggy Carter and Jack Thompson that the Leviathan kidnapped Asimov, so he could built Howard Stark's experimental weaponry for them, also mentioning Asimov's unique condition. Asimov then explained that Stark found a way to altering the behavior of the waves, which was the foundation for the Photonic Amplifier, but informed her that Stark himself was not present at the facility.

Suddenly, a group of Soviet Armed Forces soldiers found out about the intruders, so Carter liberated Asimov and Ivchenko, before they moved to the exit. In a subsequent gunfight, Asimov grabbed a gun and took Happy Sam Sawyer as his hostage. He told the soldiers that he would give the Americans to them if they allow him and Ivchenko to leave, although the soldier was hesitant on believing him. Both Carter and Ivchenko attempted to convince Nikola not to do that, but he refused to listen, so Ivchenko shot him.[2]

Abilities[]

  • Genius-Level Intellect: Although his mind was fragile, Asimov was able to understand the most complex designs and build incredible weapons. He saw complex ideas in the simplest of settings such as a field of grass.
  • Master Scientist: Leviathan kidnapped Asimov when the organization needed someone to understand and duplicate Howard Stark's work. Asimov was able to break down the schematics of the Photonic Amplifier and explain the advanced scientific workings in a way that others could comprehend.
  • Master Engineer: Asimov was forced to construct weapons for the Soviet Union based off of Howard Stark's schematics.
  • Bilingualism: Asimov is fluent in both Russian and English.
