Marvel's New Warriors, or simply New Warriors, was a planned television series based on the Marvel Comics superhero team of the same name. Produced by Marvel Television, it was initially developed at Freeform.[1]

On September 15, 2019, it was announced that the series failed to find a new network and was officially cancelled.[2]

Synopsis[]

The New Warriors are six young people with powers living and working together. With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of the Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world ... even if the world isn't ready.[3]

On April 5, 2017, Freeform greenlit New Warriors with a straight-to-series order.[3] On July 10, 2017, the first cast members were revealed.[5] Filming for the pilot episode had begun by June 2017, in Atlanta.[8]

On November 1, 2017, it was announced that Freeform was unable to find a time slot for New Warriors in their 2018 lineup, resulting in Marvel pulling the series from the network. The series was being shopped elsewhere.[1]

On June 7, 2018, Jeph Loeb said Marvel Television was still looking for a network to air New Warriors.[9]

On September 16, 2019, it was announced that the series did not find a new home after being passed on by multiple networks, including Hulu and Disney+, and was officially cancelled.[2] Showrunner Kevin Biegel later stated that the show would have had a lot of LGBTQ+ representation, and that a Marvel executive (who was unnamed, but labeled as "homophobic" by Biegel) took aim at the show for being "very, very proudly gay".[10]
