In 1988, the New Orleans Gazette published an article called "Two College Students Murdered," about the brutal murder of two college students which was at first suspected to be an act of hazing gone wrong. The article also commented on a similar murder from months prior which was poorly handled by the police and mentioned that the earlier case remained unsolved, as well as that the killer in this new case had not been caught. They reported on the New Orleans Police Department's response to the increased criticism, and safety measures colleges were taking as a result of the situation.[1] Louise Hastings found the news story while collecting information about the killer, Marduk Kurios.[2]
