Nebula was a Luphomoid assassin and an adoptive daughter of Thanos. When Thanos discovered that the Avengers from an alternate timeline were collecting the Infinity Stones to undo what his alternate self accomplished, Nebula was tasked with infiltrating the Avengers and bring Thanos' forces into their timeline. Nebula tried to claim the Stones and bring them to Thanos, despite Gamora's betrayal, but was killed by her alternate self.

Time Heist[]
Memories Intertwined[]
In 2014, Nebula was battling Korbinites as Thanos waged another cleansing for half of the species' population. She was bested by a stray grenade and rescued from an enemy soldier by Gamora, who extends a helping hand only to be smacked away. Perturbed by being helped, Nebula demanded an explanation, only for her to relay that Thanos has found the Power Stone on Morag.
The two returned to one of Thanos' Q-Ships and discussed the prospect of him obtaining all six of the Infinity Stones and completing his plan. Suddenly, Thanos appeared in front of Nebula and Gamora, wiping blood off his Double-Edged Sword, and he informs them that Ronan the Accuser has located the Power Stone, and announces that he is planning to dispatch the two assassins to the Dark Aster to oversee the retrieval of the stone for him.
When Gamora stated that Ronan would be disturbed by their presence, Thanos warned her that his alternative was death and that Ronan's obsession with the war clouded his judgements. Stepping ahead of Gamora, Nebula bowed before Thanos promising to return with the Stone when suddenly, her Synaptic Drive glitched and a hologram of War Machine appeared before them. Thanos, curious at who this was, ordered Nebula to be examined by Ebony Maw on his ship.[1]
Learning About the Future[]
Ebony Maw examined Nebula's memory network, where he found a duplicate connection. Nebula was suspended upwards by Thanos on the Sanctuary II, with her memories being examined by Maw. As Thanos demanded him to show him her memory file, Maw concluded that her memory originated from an alternate Nebula, from another universe.
Puzzled, Thanos inquired Maw about the current location of the other Nebula, to which Maw responded that she was currently located on Morag. A curious Thanos then asked Maw to scan her memories for files that pertained to the Infinity Stones. While watching a memory that was taken during the ambush on his alternate self, Thanos learned that the alternate Nebula joined the Avengers.
Proceeding with his demands, Thanos later instructed Ronan the Accuser to delay his search for the Power Stone. Thanos ultimately discovered that his alternate self accomplished his mission and wiped out half of the universe's population to save it from the extinction. The accessed memory therefore struck him with the realization that the Avengers were the ones orchestrating the mission with the intent of undoing what his alternate self had accomplished.
After having discovered that his alternate self eventually died at the hands of Thor, Thanos acknowledged that he completed his destiny after which Gamora asked him what his alternate self did. Maw, while joyous for his master, prepared to execute Nebula for her alternate self's betrayal. Thanos, however, knew his daughter was loyal to his grand plan, and spared her; he instead planned to use her.[1]
Impersonating Her Future Self[]
- "You can stop this. You know you want to. Did you see what happens in the future? Thanos finds the Soul Stone. You wanna know how he does that? You wanna know what he does to you?"
- ―Nebula to Nebula[src]
Once Nebula was released from the examination, Thanos descended the Sanctuary II on Morag and beamed up her alternate self in the Benatar space pod, anchoring the shuttle into the ship. As Nebula was interrogating her alternate self, she took offense that her counterpart betrayed Thanos. When her counterpart told Gamora that in her universe, Thanos found the Soul Stone and began to state what he did to Gamora's alternate self, Nebula struck her. Threatening her with a knife, instead of killing or torturing her, Nebula instead removed superficial armor plating to equip to herself, and handed Thanos the vial of Pym Particles to transport them through the Quantum Realm. With her outward appearance identical to her alternate self and equipped with the Advanced Tech Suit, Nebula activated the Time-Space GPS to travel to the main universe.
Upon arriving in that universe at the Avengers Compound, Nebula had to make herself scarce as the Avengers mourned their friend who sacrificed herself for the Soul Stone. Nebula stayed in the Compound's hangar and activated the Quantum Tunnel to summon the Sanctuary II.
With success, the Sanctuary II was transported to the universe, and Thanos proceeded to bomb the Compound, destroying the vast majority of it, which also separated the Avengers from each other. Nebula managed to get to safety as this was going on. Once Thanos beamed down to the ruins, Nebula approached him and was instructed to find the Nano Gauntlet and bring it to him.[1]
Killed by Her Alternate Self[]
Nebula then located a fatigued Hawkeye in the Compound's tunnels. Hawkeye looked up and claimed to recognize Nebula, unaware that the one he was talking to was not the Nebula he knew. As Nebula contacted Thanos that she had the Gauntlet, Hawkeye realized he was duped and attempted to fight her until she ended the transmission with her father and aimed a blaster pistol on him to silence him.
Suddenly, Gamora and the other Nebula arrived, defending Hawkeye, who scurried away to observe the confrontation at a distance. As her alternate self attempted to urge her to lay down her arms, noting the shared memory network, Nebula could not fathom such a future in betrayal of Thanos. Gamora stood down to show good faith and appealed to her sister, but it was all in vain as Nebula aimed to shoot at her sister. In reflex, her alternate self shot her through the cardiac region, killing her as she shed a tear.[1]
