Nanih Waiya, also known as the Mother Mound, is a small mound connected to a nearby cave that the Choctaw considered their sacred origin location.
History[]
Many generations ago, Chafa was the first Choctaw to emerge as a clay being in the subterranean cave within Nanih Waiya.[1][2] Drinking from a swirling, primordial pool within Nanih Waiya, an energy of unknown origin coursed through Chafa's body. After others like Chafa emerged, the Biskinik found its way into the cave and landed on Chafa's hand as a warning of imminent danger. The cave began to collapse, but Chafa used her newfound strength to delay the collapse until she and her people escaped. Emerging from Nanih Waiya and stepping into the sunlight, the clay fell from their bodies and they were transformed into human beings.[1][3]

Trivia[]
- In the comics, there were several inter-dimensional nexus points connecting Giizhigong ("Sky" or "Heaven" in the Ojibwe language), a pocket dimension and spiritual plane that was home to the Manidoog, a collective of gods that were worshipped by North America's indigenous peoples, with the North American continent. One such nexus point was known as Sipapu, the "Place of Emergence," a hole in the ground in the Grand Canyon where the first people climbed out into the Earth, according to Hopi legend.
