"We represent husbands, sons, daughters, people like you and me, Mr. Khan. So yeah, we may be over-leveraged, for now, but we serve a vital function in a city that desperately needs us."
Matt Murdock to Yusuf Khan[src]

Murdock & McDuffie, also known as Murdock and Associates,[1] is a law firm located in New York City, New York.

History[]

Foundation[]

"You said we'd take on the hard cases."
"And impossible odds work is what we do here."
Kirsten McDuffie and Matt Murdock[src]

Due to Foggy Nelson's death, the law firm of Nelson, Murdock & Page was dissolved while Karen Page relocated to San Francisco.[2] Matt Murdock then approached Kirsten McDuffie and asked her if she wanted to form a private law practice with him, stating that she was brilliant and that together they would take on hard cases and focus on impossible odds.[3] McDuffie agreed and the two formed Murdock & McDuffie, a private law firm that operated out of a law office in Manhattan. To help with his cases, Murdock hired Cherry as his private investigator. Over the next year, Murdock & McDuffie became a successful firm, and hired many attorneys to work for them, including Arnie Arnot.[2]

The People v. Hector Ayala[]

"You can barely handle your current caseload. I'd have to sit second chair."
"A high-profile case like this is not the worst thing in the world."
"It's exactly the opposite of what this firm needs right now."
Kirsten McDuffie and Matt Murdock[src]

While visiting the 15th Precinct Police Station, Matt Murdock overheard Hector Ayala being beaten by police officers, who referred to Ayala as a cop killer and demanded that he signed a forced confession. Murdock then intervened and assigned himself as Ayala's attorney. Ayala notified Murdock of his story, that he was saw two men at the 168th Street Station, Connor Powell and Kel Shanahan, assault a man named Nicky Torres and that he had intervened to help Torres, although Shanahan tripped and was struck by an incoming subway train. Powell then revealed that he was part of the NYPD and arrested Ayala, but claimed that he and Shanahan were alone on the platform and that Ayala had attacked them without cause before intentionally pushing Shanahan in front of a speeding train. Murdock believed Ayala and agreed to represent him pro bono.

As Kirsten McDuffie and Cherry went to visit Hector's wife Soledad at the Ayala Residence, they discovered that Ayala was the vigilante known as White Tiger. Murdock then appealed to Judge Fitzgerald Cooper to suppress District Attorney Benjamin Hochberg's attempt to disclose Ayala's vigilante identity and activities, which Cooper agreed to.[3] During the trial, Murdock questioned Powell, who lied on the stand. Murdock then arranged for Torres to testify, but Torres perjured himself and claimed he was not on the platform. As a result, Murdock exposed Ayala's identity as White Tiger publicly and gathered citizens who had been saved by White Tiger to testify. Murdock & McDuffie's representation of Ayala caused the jury to deem Ayala "not guilty" on all three of his counts, garnering a win for Murdock & McDuffie.[4]
