The Murder of David Richardson was the result of David Richardson not understanding the Grandmaster's musical instructions while the Grandmaster struggled to put a band together so that he could rule Earth.

Darryl Jacobson films the Grandmaster's declaration that he will rule Earth
Following the death of Topaz, the Grandmaster decided to go to Earth and answered an ad looking for a housemate which was posted by Darryl Jacobson. Jacobson and the Grandmaster became housemates, and the Grandmaster decided to have Jacobson replace Topaz as his servant. He had Jacobson wear Topaz's armor and perform chores for him including driving him around. He grew to appreciate Earth, and decided to take it over. He had Jacobson record his declaration that he was taking over and post it online. However, the video got very few views, so the Grandmaster decided to create a band to promote the video, asking Jacobson to bring his friends over, including David Richardson.[1]

During the first rehearsal of the band, the Grandmaster stopped playing when he was unpleased with the way David Richardson was playing. He had the rest of the band stop and asked Richardson why he was playing wrong, using musical terms which are not used on Earth. Richardson responded with confusion, unaware of the terms he was using, upsetting the Grandmaster. The Grandmaster reached for his Melt Stick and used it on Richardson, scaring Darryl Jacobson, his girlfriend, and the other band member there. He then resumed rehearsal.[1]

The Grandmaster and Darryl Jacobson went to bed that night, and the Grandmaster did not want to go to bed before apologizing for killing David Richardson, saying he should be the one to call his parents. The two decided to practice what the Grandmaster would say, with Jacobson pretending to be Richardson's mother. However, the practice turned strangely sexual, making Jacobson uncomfortable. Jacobson became scared of the Grandmaster, continually unsure of whether he wanted to hang out or kill him.[1]
