"Shut up! I can't. I'm sorry. I hear his voice, I... I see his hands. It's unbearable." - ―Adam and Wilson Fisk[src]
The Murder of Adam was Vanessa Fisk's killing of her ex-lover Adam. The event marked the end of their history together and the beginning of a new era in Vanessa's marriage to Wilson Fisk.

Adam is locked in a cage by Wilson Fisk
While Wilson Fisk was away, Vanessa Fisk assumed responsibility for managing his criminal empire. In her role, she met Adam, and the two became involved sexually. Soon, Wilson returned and became aware that Vanessa had cheated on him.[3] Despite feigning forgiveness, he imprisoned Adam in a dungeon under Red Hook Pier.[4] However, he started to feel guilt for keeping Adam trapped for weeks on end, so he decided to show Vanessa what he had done.[5]

Vanessa Fisk discovers a caged Adam
- "Please. Vanessa--"
- ―Adam to Vanessa Fisk[src]
Vanessa Fisk accompanied Wilson Fisk down a set of stairs leading under Red Hook Pier, where she was astonished to find a disheveled Adam locked in a cage. Adam pleaded with Vanessa to tell Wilson he was sorry, but Wilson ordered him to stop talking. Wilson repeated his promise to Vanessa that he would not kill Adam, all while the latter yelled he did not know Vanessa was Wilson's wife.

Adam pleads with the Fisks to release him
Vanessa asserted that Adam was not part of her and Wilson's relationship, to which Adam agreed feverishly. Adam swore up and down that he would not report his kidnapping if they let him go, causing Wilson to yell at him to be silent. As Vanessa looked on, Wilson apologized, explaining that looking at Adam's hands and hearing his voice was intolerable. Vanessa asked why Wilson kept Adam's kidnapping from her.

The key to Adam's cage rests on the table
With a trembling voice, Wilson told Vanessa that he was a better man and stated that if he could not be with Vanessa, he could not be at all. Vanessa looked down and noticed the key to Adam's cage and a gun on a table, realizing that Wilson wanted her to decide whether Adam would be freed or killed. As Vanessa contemplated, Adam assured her that if she freed him, he would simply leave and not tell anybody.

Adam is mercilessly shot by Vanessa Fisk
Adam admitted that he did not intend to drive a wedge between Wilson and Vanessa, which Vanessa agreed with. Despite this, she picked up the gun, apologizing to Adam. Her former lover desperately begged Vanessa to reconsider one final time, to no avail. Vanessa shot Adam once in the stomach and twice in the chest, causing him to fall backwards onto his cot. Vanessa then delivered the final shot to his head, killing him.
