Moon Knight is an American web television miniseries based on the Marvel Comics superhero of the same name. It is the eighteenth television series in the Marvel Cinematic Universe and the tenth installment of Phase Four. The series is produced by Marvel Studios and was released on Disney+.
The first and only season premiered on March 30, 2022 and concluded on May 4, 2022.
Synopsis[]
Season One[]
The series follows Steven Grant, a mild-mannered gift-shop employee, who becomes plagued with blackouts and memories of another life. Steven discovers he has dissociative identity disorder and shares a body with mercenary Marc Spector. As Steven/Marc’s enemies converge upon them, they must navigate their complex identities while thrust into a deadly mystery among the powerful gods of Egypt.[1]

In 2008, it was reported that Joe Carnahan had signed on to direct a Taskmaster film. Carnahan said that the film was going to include Moon Knight and that it would "literally build Taskmaster's origin" because it would "commence with the events following Taskmaster's severe beat down at the hands of Moon Knight".[2]
In October 2015, it was reported that Moon Knight would be introduced in one of Netflix's Marvel series before he got his own series, similarly to how Punisher was being introduced in Season Two of Daredevil.[3]
In May 2016, it was reported that Netflix was developing three new Marvel series centered on Blade, Ghost Rider and Moon Knight.[4]
In January 2017, Guardians of the Galaxy director and writer James Gunn revealed that he had pitched a Moon Knight film to Marvel Studios, but that he did not have the time to work on it.[5]
In April 2018, Kevin Feige revealed that Moon Knight was one of the characters being discussed for the future of the Marvel Cinematic Universe.[6]
On August 23, 2019, at D23 Expo 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Marvel Studios was developing a limited television series centered on Moon Knight for Disney+.[7]
In November 2019, it was reported that Jeremy Slater would serve as the showrunner of the series.[8]
In December 2019, Kevin Feige revealed that the series was expected to wrap production in late 2020.[9]
In January 2020, it was reported that Beau DeMayo had joined the series' writing team.[10]
On February 26, 2020, it was reported that the series would begin production in November in Atlanta and Los Angeles under the working title "Good Faith".[11][12][13]
On October 26, 2020, Deadline reported that Oscar Isaac was in negotiations to star as the title character in the series.[14] The next day, Deadline reported that Mohamed Diab would direct episodes of the series.[15]
On November 11, 2020, Discussing Film reported that the series would shoot scenes in Budapest in early 2021.[16]
On November 20, 2020, The Illuminerdi reported that the series would shoot scenes in London in March 2021.[17]
On December 10, 2020, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, Kevin Feige spoke about the series, revealing that the series would tackle Moon Knight's dissociative identity disorder.[18]
On January 8, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Justin Benson and Aaron Moorhead were attached to direct episodes of the series.[19]
On January 11, 2021, in an interview with Collider, Kevin Feige revealed that the series' first season would consist of six episodes.[20]
On January 13, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that May Calamawy had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed key role.[21]
On January 15, 2021, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Ethan Hawke had joined the cast of the series and that he would portray the series' lead antagonist.[22]
On April 10, 2021, Oscar Isaac and Ethan Hawke were spotted in Budapest.[23]
On April 30, 2021, it was reported that the series had begun production.[24]
On May 5, 2021, it was reported that the series had shot scenes in Szentendre.[25]
On May 27, 2021, Oscar Isaac confirmed his casting as Moon Knight.[26]
On July 26, 2021, it was revealed that Gaspard Ulliel had joined the cast of the series and that he would portray Anton Mogart.[27] Moon Knight was one of Ulliel's last roles before his death on January 19, 2022.[28]
On August 7, 2021, it was reported that Loic Mabanza had joined the cast of the series in an undisclosed role.[29]
On August 13, 2021, in an interview on Late Night with Seth Meyers, Hawke revealed that his character was based on American cult leader David Koresh and that Oscar Isaac was the one who asked him if he wanted to join the series.[30]
On September 30, 2021, it was reported that the series had wrapped production.[31]
On January 17, 2022, it was announced that the series would premiere on March 30.[1]
On March 7, 2022, it was reported that Hesham Nazih had composed the series' score.[32]
