- "Live somewhere like Monaco, or I don't know, wherever the hell you fat cats go to sun yourselves."
- ―Matt Murdock to Wilson Fisk[src]
Monaco, officially the Principality of Monaco, is a sovereign city-state located in Western Europe, on the northern central coast of the Mediterranean Sea.
History[]
Pleasure Trip[]
- "I was in Monaco... with a lovely tax advisor."
- ―Howard Stark to Peggy Carter[src]
Howard Stark traveled to Monaco in a pleasure trip with one of his latest conquests, a female tax advisor. During his absence, the vault under his mansion where Stark had secured his most dangerous inventions had been breached, and his technology ended up being sold in the black market and even to enemies of the United States.[1]
Grand Prix de Monaco[]
- "Iron Man never stopped protecting us. The events in Monaco proved that."
- ―Pepper Potts[src]
In 2010, Tony Stark and Pepper Potts traveled to Monaco, becoming the center of attention for the Potts' recent appointment as CEO of Stark Industries. Elon Musk congratulated Potts and greeted Stark, briefly discussing an idea about an electric jet. Justin Hammer, also attending the event, greeted Stark as he would do with an old friend despite their recent confrontation, with his date Christine Everhart, journalist from Vanity Fair.
Stark, slowly dying from palladium poisoning due to the Arc Reactor in his chest, tried to enjoy what he believed would be his last days, and he replaced the driver in the car sponsored by Stark Industries racing at the Grand Prix De Monaco to compete in the Formula One race, gaining attention in the media. Everhart left Hammer during her interview to cover this.
Stark began the race, however, it was soon interrupted when Ivan Vanko, disguised as a mechanic, entered the Circuit with the intention of killing Stark. Vanko, armed with his own Arc Reactor powered harness, easily tore one of the cars in half, and waited for Stark's car, cutting it too.
Potts and Happy Hogan rushed to the Circuit to deliver Stark a portable Iron Man Armor, in order to fight Vanko, as he managed to evade Vanko's attacks until their arrival. Hogan then repeatedly hit Vanko with the car, but was unable to prevent him from continuing his attack, even cutting the car while trapped between it and a fence. Vanko then regained enough power to attack Hogan and Potts' car, but was stopped by Stark, who defended them.
Stark put on his armor, and now, as Iron Man, was able to withstand Whiplash's attacks. Vanko himself deflected Stark's repulsor attacks, and managed to trap him with one of his whips. Stark approached Vanko enough to remove the Arc Reactor from Vanko's armor, disabling it to allow the police forces to arrest Vanko, who was transported to a French prison while laughing and claiming that Stark had lost.[2]
Jewelry Theft[]
- "Why the Kabuki theater?"
"They were afraid because somebody's targeting diamonds – an armored car in Milan, a safe in Monte Carlo, and now this, over $30 mil total." - ―Melinda May and Phil Coulson[src]
Former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Akela Amador performed a seemingly impossible jewel theft in Monte Carlo, breaking into a safe in order to gather a grand total of 30 million dollars in diamonds.
Amador was coerced by the Centipede Project to collect the diamonds to buy a proxy card to infiltrate Todorov Building in Belarus.[3]
