Trivia[]
- In the comics, Reed Richards is the co-founder and leader to the Fantastic Four, having gained his superhuman elasticity abilities from enduring cosmic irradiation during a space voyage on a shuttle he commandeered with his other three colleagues.
- In 20th Century Fox's Fantastic Four duology, Reed Richards is a part of a group expedition to space permitted by Doom Industries CEO Victor von Doom, to test the effects of biological tissue exposure towards cosmic radiation. He and his cohort comprising Johnny Storm, Susan Storm, and Ben Grimm were unwittingly exposed to a cosmic cloud storm that engulfed their space station, causing them to develop powers. Richards gained the ability to elasticize his entire body at the molecular level. Despite their disagreements, Richards and his companions regrouped to stop the newly-corrupted Doom, who plotted to kill the four of them out of spite for their failed mission causing his company bad publicity. They decided to fully commit to heroics shortly thereafter, rechristening themselves as the Fantastic Four. Richards married Susan, and the team worked with the United States military when the Silver Surfer came to Earth and foretold of the arrival of Galactus. Richards briefly gave his powers to Johnny to fight a newly powered Doom while Silver Surfer got rid of Galactus.
