- In the comics, Melissa Gold was a supervillain named Screaming Mimi who joined the Thunderbolts to gain the world's trust and take it over using the alias Songbird. However, she liked being a hero and betrayed the team's founder, Helmut Zemo, and began operating as Songbird permanently.
- In Thunderbolts*, Gold wears a bird necklace as an homage to her comics counterpart.
Behind the Scenes[]
- Ayo Edebiri was originally cast in the role of Mel before she dropped out and was replaced by Geraldine Viswanathan.[2][3]
- When asked if her character was indeed Melissa Gold, Geraldine Viswanathan said that she could not reveal that but would love to return.[4]
- The Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki's use of conjecture to place Mel as an adaptation of Songbird was contested by some editors. However, after a vote, it was decided by a slim margin that there was reasonable enough evidence to say she is an adaptation of Melissa Gold.
