Multiverse Discovered
"He discovered that there were universes stacked on top of his own..."
The subject of this article comes from an alternate universe connecting to the main timeline of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This universe is designated by the Marvel Cinematic Universe Wiki as "Illuminati Assembled".

The Masters of the Mystic Arts are an order of sorcerers who are committed to protecting the Earth from mystical threats.

History[]

Doctor Strange's Leadership[]

The Masters of the Mystic Arts had Stephen Strange as one of its members. Following his training, Strange was later awarded the title of Sorcerer Supreme and also Master of the New York Sanctum.[1]

Infinity War[]

In 2018, Thanos set out on a crusade to gather the Infinity Stones, prompting the Illuminati to band together in an attempt to stop him, except for Doctor Strange. Instead, Strange turned to the Darkhold and began dreamwalking, in search of a solution to the conflict through the Multiverse. However, Strange inadvertently caused an incursion, destroying a whole reality.

As a result, Strange renounced the Darkhold and confessed his acts to the Illuminati. They then united in search of the Book of Vishanti, using it to defeat Thanos during the Battle of Titan. Following Thanos' defeat, Black Bolt executed Strange for his crimes, a decision the Illuminati made in favor of the greater good.

In the aftermath, Karl Mordo replaced Strange as Sorcerer Supreme and Master of the New York Sanctum, taking his seat on the Illuminati. The Illuminati also covered up Strange's crimes, instead choosing to commemorate him as a hero, erecting a statue in front of the New York Sanctum in his honor.[1]

Multiversal Travelers[]

In 2024, the New York Sanctum was visited by an alternate Doctor Strange and America Chavez, to which they were greeted by its master, Baron Mordo. Whilst Strange and Mordo discussed the dreamwalking Scarlet Witch, Mordo drugged and captured the duo, for fear of an incursion upon his universe.

Mordo brought the captured travelers to the Illuminati Headquarters, where Strange was put on trial before the Illuminati. Upon the hijacked Scarlet Witch's attack, Mordo stayed behind to guard Strange while his teammates went to confront their attacker. Unrelenting to Strange's pleas for cooperation, Mordo and Strange ended up fighting, with Strange emerging victorious and freed. Reuniting with Chavez and Christine Palmer, the trio raced to obtain the Book of Vishanti, through a waypoint to the Gap Junction.[1]
