The Massacre at the X-Mansion was a mass killing that took place when a group of anti-mutant vigilantes broke into X-Mansion and killed numerous mutants, including the X-Men.

Charles Xavier put together his team of mutants, the X-Men, and offered Logan to join their cause. They even made him a superhero suit, as Cyclops, Storm, Beast, and Jean Grey wanted him to be a part of their team. However, Logan dismissed them and called them ridiculous, leaving the X-Men despite them calling after him.[1]
Massacre[]
While Logan was drinking at the bar, an anti-mutant group broke into the X-Mansion for some mutant hunting. The X-Men were overwhelmed by the attack, so Charles Xavier and most of the mutants present at the time were murdered. Logan stumbled back from the bar to find his friends slain and blamed himself for turning his back on them when they needed him the most.[1]

Blinded by sorrow and fury, Wolverine took it upon himself to find each and every person that participated in the massacre, killing them to avenge the deaths of the X-Men. However, he did not stop at the perpetrators and continued to kill more and more innocent people, which tarnished the name of the X-Men for good, turning humanity against mutants completely. Wolverine's failure brought disastrous consequences for his world and made him go down a spiral of depression, spending decades getting drunk at various bars. He decided to keep wearing the Wolverine Suit as it was his only memento of his friends and a reminder of his inability to save them.
One day, Wolverine was suddenly approached by Deadpool from an alternate universe who was seeking a replacement for the Wolverine of his world, who was an anchor being. Wolverine was disinterested in listening to him but Deadpool dragged him to the Time Variance Authority when he was unconscious, presenting him to Mr. Paradox who immediately dismissed Wolverine for what he had done. He and Deadpool were pruned and sent to the Void, where they had to encounter Cassandra Nova, and joined the Resistance to bring down her reign over the Void. During the battle, Nova accessed Wolverine's memories and made him relieve his sorrows over the X-Men.
She wanted Wolverine to embrace his rage and become his unstoppable self with her in the Void, but Wolverine rejected her and Deadpool managed to neutralize Nova with Juggernaut's helmet. When Nova was dying from Pyro's attempt on her life, Wolverine chose to spare her out of his respect towards Charles Xavier, accepting his past and choosing to be someone Xavier wanted him to be. Wolverine then joined forces with Deadpool to save his world and the whole Multiverse from Nova, choosing to stay there, thus becoming a new anchor being and preserving Deadpool's world.[1]
Behind the Scenes[]
- Deadpool & Wolverine director Shawn Levy and his crew originally discussed about showing onscreen the Massacre at the X-Mansion, like with a soundscape and sound design, but they ultimately felt that the specific character deaths didn't matter in the plot as much as they haunted Wolverine, with Ryan Reynolds agreeing that the absence of visual confirmation can often be more impactful and fearing showing the X-Men's deaths would have "cheapened" the film's emotional weight and move away the focus from Wolverine's internal struggles.[2]
