- "Once... I'm asking you, please. Please don't do this. Not this way. Just kill me as I am. Otherwise there will be no mercy, I promise."
"Mercy? This may surprise you, our whole mission is built on mercy for you, and those like you, as well as all the innocent lives you take. You'll wanna see this, darling. Your father died convinced you'd never come home. I lived in hope." - ―Jack Russell and Verussa Bloodstone[src]
The Massacre at the Bloodstone Manor was an attempt by Verussa Bloodstone to turn Jack Russell into a werewolf so that he would kill Elsa Bloodstone. However, the plan went wrong, leading Russell and Elsa to kill nearly everyone.
Background[]
- "My word. A monster. Masquerading as one of our own. Desecrating a sacred night! And you? What was the thinking here? You freed a monster with a monster?"
- ―Verussa Bloodstone to Elsa Bloodstone[src]
With Ulysses Bloodstone's death, his wife Verussa called the best monster hunters around the world to come to Bloodstone Manor. Once Jack Russell, Joshua Jovan, Azarel, Barasso, and Liorn arrived, they were told by a puppeteered Ulysses that they were to participate in a challenge for the Bloodstone, a powerful gem. However, some attention was put on Elsa Bloodstone. Despite her not being a hunter, she was the daughter of Ulysses. Verussa explained that she could participate.
Russell was the first one into the maze to get the Bloodstone from the monster. Unbeknownst to everyone else, Russell was truly there to break out the monster, Ted Sallis, whom he was friends with. Every hunter entered the maze, fughting for themselves. Elsa was able to slain Liorn while Jovan pursued her. Meanwhile, Russell found Sallis, but had to flee from Azarel until he found a room. Upon entering the room, he closed the door, accidentally locking it. He was then stuck with Elsa, who was there in hiding.
Jovan eventually found Man-Thing, but was incinerated. Russell and Elsa finally broke out as Elsa agreed to help him. Russell went to blow open the wall while Elsa found Sallis and led him to the exit. Man-Thing managed to break out just as Russell blew open the wall. With victory, Russell went to pick up the Bloodstone, only to be blown backwards. Verussa arrived and realized that Russell himself was a monster. Russell and Elsa were then captured.[1]
Massacre[]
- "Elsa! You let him go! You will now die, as you lived, a disgarce to your father's memory, and the hallowed Bloodstone name!"
- ―Verussa Bloodstone to Elsa Bloodstone[src]
Jack Russell woke up in a cage with Elsa Bloodstone. He had to explain that he was actually a werewolf, both angering and frightening Elsa, who said that the Bloodstone could turn him at any minute, despite the fact that there was no full moon for five days. Russell then scurried over to Elsa and began sniffing her, saying that he hoped he could recognize her scent when he is inevitably turned. Verussa Bloodstone, Azarel, and Barasso then entered.
Verussa approached Russell, scolding him before saying she could not wait to see what breed of evil he was. She then took the bBloodstone and blasted Russell, who struggled against the energy beam. Finally, he started transforming as Verussa cackled. Elsa backed up into the edge of the cage fearing for her life as Russell transformed in front of her. Verussa then stopped and inched closer to the cage. Suddenly, Russell reached out and grabbed Verussa, pulling her close as she screamed. As the guards attacked Russell, he jumped to the top of the cage and broke out.
The guards and hunters worriedly searched the room, but found no sighting of the werewolf. Suddenly, Russell leaped from the wall, landing and slaying multiple guards. Russell then roared as he preformed many jumps and attacks. Barasso then threw a staff at the werewolf, knocking him down. Russell then attacked Barasso and bit his ear off before throwing Barasso across the room. As the attention was on Russell, Elsa broke out, but was met by Barasso, who quickly recovered. Elsa ran for a sword and attacked Barasso, eventually slicing his neck open.
Azarel then attacked Elsa, but was also no match as Elsa kicked her wrecking ball into the cage before chopping her in the head with the sword. Russell attacked and killed more guards until he threw one into a room. As the light flickered, Russell rampaged through all of the guards, ripping out their organs and clawing them opened. However, just as he was about to escape, Verussa closed the door. Russell clawed and scraped at the wall in hopes of getting out.
Russell then turned towards Verussa, who blasted him with the Bloodstone. Although Russell was effected by the stone, he kept running at Verussa. Suddenly, Elsa grabbed Verussa with a grappling hook and pulled her back. Elsa then slowly walked towards Russell and picked up the Bloodstone for her own safety. As she inched closer, Russell leaped at Elsa knocking her to the ground. However, Russell stopped before killing her and recognized Elsa's scent. He came to a realization and ran away into the night.
Elsa got up, only to find Verussa, yelling at Elsa, saying how much of a disappointment she was. Verussa planned to kill her step-daughter, but suddenly, Man-Thing arrived. He fell through the ceiling and grabbed Verussa, incinerating her. Taking the corpse now, Man-Thing threw her into Ulysses Bloodstone's casket, causing the head of Ulysses to slide across the floor below. Man-Thing then looked at Elsa, who told him that Russell was gone. Man-Thing slowly walked away, passed the many corpses.[1]
Aftermath[]
- "Oh, yeah, thanks, Ted. Oh, yeah, thanks, man. Is she okay? Good. That's good. What? No. No, I'm the one who comes to your rescue. What are you talkin' about? Whatever. No. Man, I cannot think of food right now. I'm... Let's do sushi. I owe you that. Yes. Yeah, you choose. Yeah."
- ―Jack Russell to Man-Thing[src]
Looking at all of the destruction, Elsa Bloodstone was met by Billy Swan, who had hid during the massacre. Swan told Elsa that she had his loyalty. She simply told Swan to start by cleaning everything up. Swan started to do so as Elsa sat down in a chair, reflecting and holding the Bloodstone in her hand.
The next morning, Jack Russell woke up in human form to the sound of Over the Rainbow playing over a phonograph. He struggled to get out of his hut to see Ted Sallis playing cards on a log. Russell greeted and thanked Sallis. The two then talked before Russell added that they should go get sushi.[1]
