- "We're a team?"
"Oh, no, no, no, no, we're not a team."
"We're not a team." - ―Kamala Khan, Monica Rambeau and Carol Danvers[src]
The Marvels were a makeshift team created when the powers of Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan were entangled due to the machinations of Dar-Benn. The group joined together to stop Dar-Benn, and disbanded after her defeat which led to the disentanglement of their powers.
History[]
Marvellous Heroes[]
- "Captain Marvel can absorb light energy. I can see it. And you, you can turn light into physical matter."
- ―Monica Rambeau to Kamala Khan[src]
Carol Danvers was exposed to energy from the Tesseract that imbued her with light-based powers, eventually becoming the superhero known as "Captain Marvel." Formerly allied with the Kree, Danvers discovered their deceits and decided to help the Skrulls, a race under tyranny from the Kree. In an attempt to bring an end to the Kree-Skrull War, Danvers destroyed the Supreme Intelligence, unintentionally resulting in the entire Kree world to descend. This shame led to Danvers never returning home to Earth, where Monica Rambeau, Danvers' honorary niece, was waiting for her. Rambeau grew up feeling resentment towards Danvers, feeling that she had been abandoned by her. Later on, Rambeau encountered Scarlet Witch, and was given light-based powers after passing through her hex, which altered her cells. Elsewhere, Kamala Khan, a huge fan of Danvers, unlocked her light-based powers, which were harnessed through her bangle. Khan used her powers to become a superhero known as "Ms. Marvel," named after her hero.[1]
Entangled[]
- "I'm thinking that our joint exposure to these unsteady Jump Points and our susceptibility to electromagnetic energy has temporarily entangled our world-lines."
"Yeah, that, right there."
"Entanglement. Our light powers are entangled. So, we switch places whenever we use them at the same time." - ―Monica Rambeau and Nick Fury to Carol Danvers[src]
When Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau both interacted with an unstable Jump Point simultaneously, it caused them to become entangled with each other, due to their light-based powers, along with Kamala Khan. The three uncontrollably switched places with each other. They all managed to return to their respective places, and Danvers went to investigate the Kree's involvement, while Rambeau went with Nick Fury to find Khan.
However, the three began to switch again when they used their powers at the same time, causing them all to engage in a fight across three locations with Kree soldiers. Rambeau and Fury met with Khan to explain that because of their similar abilities, they switched places when they used their powers. Through more switching, they both ended up on Tarnax IV], the new home planet for Skrulls, where Danvers went to confront Dar-Benn. Danvers rushed back to Tarnax IV and grouped with Rambeau and Khan. The three witnessed Dar-Benn open an unstable Jump Point which began to remove all the air from the planet. The three heroes rushed to save as many Skrulls as they could as their new home planet was lost.[1]
Team Up[]
- "I, Kamala Khan of Jersey City, am on a team with Captain Marvel and Captain Monica Rambeau, who from this point onwards will now be known as... Professor Marvel."
"Oh! Professor Marvel."
"No. No, no, she... she will not."
"The Marvels." - ―Kamala Khan, Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau[src]
After evacuating the Skrulls, Carol Danvers, Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan recouped on the Hoopty, where Danvers expressed her fondness for working with others again. Khan became excited by the idea of them being a team, so she dubbed them the "Marvels," after them all having the shared superhero name, with Rambeau's named being suggested to be "Professor Marvel."
They focused on Dar-Benn's plans, figuring out that her creating the unstable Jump Points had to do with the Quantum Bands, one which owned by Dar-Ben, and the other which was in Khan's possession. Determined to stop Dar-Ben before she could create another unstable Jump Point, the Marvels used the Fracking Pods to access their memories to see where Dar-Benn was going next. Danvers' memories of Rambeau's mother emerged, which upset Rambeau, so Khan and Danvers hugged her.
Working with the information they had, the Marvels concluded that Dar-Benn was using the Jump Points to restore Hala's natural resources, and that she would be heading to Aladna next for water. Knowing that they could not wait to stop Dar-Benn, the Marvels made contact with Khan's family to inform them that she would be joining them on the mission. During the journey to Aladna, the Marvels practiced their switching so that they would be better prepared when using their powers in battle.[1]
Arrival on Aladna[]
- "But nonetheless we ring the bells to usher in, who, pray tell? None other than one, two, three... The Marvels!"
"The Marvels? Yes!"
"How... How is that even a thing already?" - ―Royal Attaché, Kamala Khan and Monica Rambeau[src]
The Marvels arrived on Aladna, where Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan were surprised to learn that Carol Danvers was the planet's princess. The group were announced as the "Marvels," confusing Rambeau as to how the team name had already become known by others. The Marvels met with Prince Yan and warned him about Dar-Benn's incoming attack.
The Aladneans provided the Marvels with new suits, and they waited for Dar-Benn to arrive. Danvers and Rambeau managed to get Dar-Benn alone, but were still working out their switching powers, allowing Dar-Benn to get away with the Universal Weapon. Danvers and Rambeau went after Dar-Benn while Khan fought alongside the Aladneans against the Kree soldiers. The Marvels were unable to prevent Dar-Benn from opening up Jump Points, which began extracting the water from Aladna. The Marvels returned to the Hoopty, and Rambeau and Khan wanted to retreat, but Danvers did not. However, Danvers was forced to, and they left Aladna, stopping Dar-Benn from acquiring the other bangle.[1]
Coming Together[]
- "I'm really glad that you're here now. And you, too."
"I'm glad to be here. I hope that goes without saying." - ―Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan[src]
Landing on a new planet, the Marvels argued about leaving Aladna, and Carol Danvers revealed to Monica Rambeau and Kamala Khan that she caused the Kree Civil War, which was why she never returned to Earth. Rambeau told Danvers that she would have always accepted her back. Danvers expressed her happiness to be with Rambeau and Khan.
Witnessing a new Jump Point open up, Danvers deduced that Dar-Benn was heading for Earth next. They flew to the S.A.B.E.R. Space Station and reunited with Nick Fury and Khan's family, where they were informed about the evacuation plan to use the Flerken to swallow the crew and put them in the escape pods. Danvers and Khan helped herd the Flerken while Rambeau located Dar-Benn, who was planning to steal the sun. The Marvels returned to the Hoopty and headed towards the sun.[1]
Stopping Dar-Benn[]
- "This could have been so much easier."
"I don't know, I like our odds." - ―Dar-Benn and Ms. Marvel[src]
Captain Marvel confronted Dar-Benn first, but when her attempts to plea with her failed, Monica Rambeau snuck up behind Dar-Benn and attacked her. After stealing the Universal Weapon, Ms. Marvel joined them, and the Marvels stood together, ready to fight Dar-Benn.
Using their powers one at a time and switching places, the Marvels fought against Dar-Benn. Dar-Benn managed to hold her own against the Marvels, however, they were ultimately able to defeat her when she was pinned under a rubble that stabbed into her. The Marvels made another plea for her to stand down, which Dar-Benn complied with. After helping her up, Dar-Benn immediately betrayed them and stole the Quantum Bands, which she used to open a Jump Point, killing her in the process.[1]
Losing Monica Rambeau[]
- "You want us to blast you with the same amount of power that punched a hole in the fabric of space-time?"
"If we wanna un-punch it, yeah." - ―Carol Danvers and Monica Rambeau[src]
The Marvels witness the new unstable Jump Point upon up, which Monica Rambeau identified as another universe spilling through. Rambeau came up with an idea to close it, with Carol Danvers and Kamala Khan powering her up so that she could release the energy inside the tear.
Khan equipped both Quantum Bands, and she and Danvers blasted Rambeau with their energy, which she absorbed. They then watched Rambeau fly out to the Jump Point, where she successfully began to close it from the other side. As it got near to being closed completely, Rambeau revealed that she would have to stay on the other side to do so. Danvers rushed out to save Rambeau, but was unable to reach her in time, and the Jump Point closed with Rambeau in it. Danvers and Khan were saddened by the loss of Rambeau, and they hugged each other for support.
Disbanded[]
- "I really miss her. We were good together."
- ―Kamala Khan to Carol Danvers[src]
After the conflict with Dar-Benn was over, Carol Danvers help Hala by restoring their sun. No longer entangled and with the loss of Monica Rambeau, the Marvels were disbanded. Danvers decided to move back to Earth, living in Rambeau's home, and Kamala Khan and her family helped her move in. Danvers and Khan talked about Rambeau, optimistically saying that she would come back. Being in the Marvels inspired Khan to form her own team of young superheroes. Meanwhile, Rambeau awoke in the new universe she was in to discover a variant of her mother had saved her.[1]
