Marlene Erskine was the daughter of Abraham Erskine.
Biography[]
In September 1935, Marlene attempted to flee Germany with her family. Her grandfather, on her mother's side, was a Jew and Abraham Erskine wanted to take his family to safety. They were stopped at the Germany/Switzerland border by Johann Schmidt and his men. Schmidt wanted Erskine's work on ways to increase molecular density of cellular fibers through synthetic proteins. In order to ensure Abraham's cooperation, Schmidt sent her, her mother Greta and her brother Klaus to the Dachau concentration camp.[2] She died during a typhus outbreak.[3]
