"Maria Hill, Acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. You need to come with us."
―Maria Hill to Jane Foster[src]

Maria Hill is an Acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. who temporarily replaced Nick Fury when he was rendered unconscious. Enlisting Jane Foster and Captain Marvel for help, Hill led a S.H.I.E.L.D. mission to stop Thor and his extraterrestrial party on Earth.

Enlisting Jane Foster[]

"You were the first to warn us about this extraterrestrial threat. Now I hope you will be the key to eliminating it."

Hill approaches Jane Foster

When Thor and a large group of extraterrestrial intruders appeared on Earth and started a party, Nick Fury was rendered unconscious by Korg, so Maria Hill had to step in as the Acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. due to Fury's condition. Together with Brock Rumlow and two agents, Hill approached Jane Foster and Darcy Lewis in Las Vegas. Since Foster was the first one to contact S.H.I.E.L.D. about the upcoming threat, Hill assumed that she could help them to eliminate it. Foster was not sure if Thor could be considered a threat, but Hill explained to her that Thor was the reason why Fury was incapable to lead S.H.I.E.L.D., and she had to step in.

Both Foster and Lewis were taken to the Helicarrier where Foster told Hill about her research of the anomaly, although she was too embarrassed to explain in detail. Phil Coulson later informed Hill that Thor's party was expanding rapidly, as she noticed Foster's awkward reaction to the mentioning of Thor. As Thor was spotted in Paris, Hill ordered Rumlow to get Fury's Transmitter Pager, since S.H.I.E.L.D. did not have enough manpower to take an Asgardian down. Foster protested against it, since it was Earth's first encounter with alien life, but Hill objected that S.H.I.E.L.D. already had an extraterrestrial experience.[1]

"Arm the nukes."
"What? I thought she was the nuke."
"Just in case she gets distracted by a cat."

Hill activated the Transmitter Pager to summon Captain Marvel to deal with Thor, however, she failed the mission. Back at the Helicarrier, Hill criticized Danvers, recalling how Nick Fury described her as the most powerful being he encountered. Danvers, however, argued that if she had exerted her full powers, Earth would suffer immense damage, and taking Thor down did not worth the fatalities. Darcy Lewis jokingly suggested to blow up South Dakota, but Hill noticed that the Mojave Desert could withstand the hit, while Danvers said that she could fully unleash her powers somewhere in Siberia. Jane Foster tried to convince Hill that Thor might not be as bad as she thinks, but Hill ignored her suggestion and stated that S.H.I.E.L.D. no longer requires her assistance, so both Foster and Lewis were taken out of the Helicarrier.

WI107 - Hill calls off the nuclear strike

Hill calls off the nuclear strike on Thor

Proceeding with the mission, Danvers attacked Thor and brought him to the waste ground in Siberia, as Hill ordered Brock Rumlow to prepare the Atomic Bombs. Phil Coulson was not sure about using the nuclear strike, but Hill argued that it was a precaution, since they cannot rely on Danvers alone. However, just as Hill was about to launch the strike, Frigga appeared between Thor and Danvers, much to Thor's horror. Witnessing Thor's reaction to Frigga coming to Earth, Hill called off the strike, knowing that Thor's mother would be able to set him straight.[1]

Personality[]

As acting director of S.H.I.E.L.D., Hill was a tough person who focused on protecting the world first. She ignored Jane Foster's pleas to appeal to Thor as a person and simply viewed him as a threat, calling in Captain Marvel to neutralize him. When Captain Marvel failed, Hill again scolded her and planned a nuclear assault.

Abilities[]

  • Master Tactician: As a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, Hill learned to strategize in order to best prevent world-ending situations. Realizing that Thor's party threatened to destroy Earth and that S.H.I.E.L.D. was not strong enough to stop him, she called in Captain Marvel and planned a nuclear assault on Thor to defeat him.

Other Equipment[]

Vehicles[]

  • Helicarrier: Hill was stationed at the Helicarrier when she had to step in the position of the Acting Director of S.H.I.E.L.D. to replace Nick Fury. Hill ordered to bring the Helicarrier to Siberia during the fight between Captain Marvel and Thor, and prepared to launch a nuclear strike, however, after Frigga interfered, Hill called it off.
