- "I can't believe you're working with these lowlifes, Scarlotti."
"We don't judge our clients. That's not good for business. You could learn a thing or two from us." - ―Iron Man and Whiplash[src]
Marc Scarlotti was a former employee of Stark Industries who was fired by Tony Stark. Scarlotti believed he was wrongfully terminated and joined the Maggia, developing an electric suit and becoming Whiplash. He then ended up fighting Stark, but lost.
Biography[]
Early Life[]
Fired[]
Marc Scarlotti worked at Stark Industries and worked on projects which helped increase the company's fortune. However, Scarlotti was fired by Tony Stark. Scarlotti was bitter at Stark for firing him, claiming that his work had helped make Stark rich.[1]
Maggia[]
Scarlotti vs. Iron Man
- "Marc Scarlotti seems to be shielded sir. Attacks are ineffective"
- ―J.A.R.V.I.S.[src]
Scarlotti started working for the Maggia, former clients of Stark Industres. Stark began searching for stolen weapons using his Iron Man armor and encountered Scarlotti, who was leading a Maggia operation to transport weapons. Stark hacked Scarlotti's communications, and Scarlotti immediately recognized him, swearing at Stark for firing him. Stark followed Scarlotti, who went inside the Maggia's armory.
Whiplash
Stark followed Scarlotti into the base, where he discovered that Scarlotti had enhanced hand mounted gauntlets with fingertips could extend to become ten separate electrically charged whips. J.A.R.V.I.S. informed Stark that Scarlotti could create a shield around himself and had augmented himself with synthetic muscles as Scarlotti attacked Stark. Stark then had to confront Scarlotti in hand-to-hand combat, because of Scarlotti's shield protecting him from repulsor blasts. Stark defeated Scarlotti and left him unconscious before blowing up the base.[1]
Personality[]
Scarlotti was an intelligent scientist who was able to create an armor which deflected attacks from the Iron Man armor. His work increased the fortune at Stark Industries. However, he was also a bitter individual who held a grudge against Tony Stark over his firing. He became bitter enough to work for Stark's rival and attempt to kill Stark when given the chance.

Powers[]
- Whiplash Armor Capabilities: Scarlotti created an armor which enhanced his abilities as a fighter and allowed him to be a challenge for Iron Man.
- Superhuman Strength: Scarlotti's suit contained synthetic muscles which made him stronger physically.
- Superhuman Durability: Despite not protecting a significant amount of his body, the suit was equipped with a durable force field that prevented Tony Stark from being able to hurt his using weapons, instead forcing Stark to use hand-to-hand combat, which was a weakness of the force field.
- Whip Manipulation: Scarlotti's suit came with a series of whips which protruded from the armor, which Scarlotti could use to attack Tony Stark. He used the whips to cling to the ceiling and elevate himself so that Stark's sensors could not pick up on him so he could descend on a different location and attack Stark again.
Abilities[]
- Master Engineer: Scarlotti's engineering skills earned a lot of money for Stark Industries. Even when his firing from the company meant he no longer had their resources, Scarlotti was able to build an armor which provided him with extra strength and durability.
- Combatant: Scarlotti was a skilled combatant. He was able to pose a threat to Tony Stark's fighting skills when the two started fighting hand-to-hand.
- Acrobat: Using his whips and acrobatic skills, Scarlotti was able to ascend to the ceiling of an armory and move around the ceiling, then descend back to the floor in a new place to attack.
