Energy Circle DS
"The language of the Mystic Arts is as old as civilization. The sorcerers of antiquity called the usage of this language "spells", but if that word offends your modern sensibility you can call it "program", the source code that shapes reality. We harness energy drawn from other dimensions of the Multiverse to cast spells, to conjure shields and weapons, to make magic!"
―The Ancient One to Stephen Strange[src]

Magic is the practice of utilizing energy drawn from other dimensions to cast spells, shape reality and conjure weapons and shields. It's is commonly used by the Asgardians and the Masters of the Mystic Arts of Earth.

History

Asgardian Magic

"Your ancestors called it magic but you call it science. I come from a land where they are one and the same."
Thor to Jane Foster[src]

Eldritch Magic

The Eldritch Magic[1] is a light-based magic that produces sparks and energy and uses a fiery yellow/orange color palette throughout. It can be used to generate constructs of tangible energy, such as weapons and shields.

Types of Magic

Asgardian Magic

  • Illusion Manipulation: Loki[2] and Frigga[3] can generate hazy green, holographic images, used to create illusions. They have both used this ability to either make decoys of themselves or another person, or to project themselves to another location to speak to someone. Loki was also able to use illusions to alter his appearance, hiding his Asgardian armour as normal human clothes so he could blend in, also transforming his scepter into just an ordinary cane.
  • Invisibility: Loki can make himself and others invisible, through magic. He was able to remain unseen by Heimdall, an impressive feat very few could accomplish and he was also able to walk through a S.H.I.E.L.D. base completely undetected.
  • Telekinesis: Loki can also move objects using only his mind, usually accompanied by a green flash. He was able to telekinetically enhance the force of his throwing daggers[2]and upon hearing of Frigga's death he unleashed a telekinetic blast that sent everything in his cell, flying away from him.
  • Enchantment: Odin enchanted Mjølnir so that only those who the hammer deemed worthy of its power could lift it.[2] The enchantment made it impossible to lift Mjølnir through brute force alone, as not even Hulk was able to lift it.[4]
  • Persuasion: Lorelei possesses a unique ability, that Sif described as Sorcery, that allows her to enthrall men. This ability is usually effective through voice, but if Lorelei's victim proves to have a higher will capable of resisting her power, she is able to strengthen the enthrallment through touch.[5]

Eldritch Magic

  • Eldritch Whip: The Masters of the Mystic Arts are able to conjure fiery lines they can use as whips or lassos for combat. They constantly emit sparks, giving it a serrated appearance and generate enough greater force that the user can normally generate. This allows a user to effortlessly restrain and drag humans with the rope or strike someone with enough force to send them flying across a room.
  • Mandalas of Light: Sorcerers can use their tangible, fiery energy to form holographic mandalas, which are religious and magical symbols. The constructs are used as energy shields or melee weapons.
  • Portal: Using the Sling Rings, the sorcerers are able to create fiery portals with various sizes to another location on Earth or throughout the Multiverse.[6]

Astral Dimension Magic

Dark Dimension Magic

  • Reality Warping: After performing the ritual to contact Dormammu and tap into the powers of the Dark Dimension, Kaecilius and the Zealots were able to manipulate space without being in the Mirror Dimension. This allowed him to warp and twist the landscape of the Mirror Dimension, as well as the inside of the New York Sanctum. Also, he could run on walls and ceilings, totally disregarding gravity.
  • Space Shard[1]: Space Shards are mystically-formed blades made of space that is warped into a glass like material.[6]
  • Immortality: The Ancient One achieved immortality by drawing power from the Dark Dimension to fuel her long life. However, this form of immortality only suppresses the aging process, meaning that she can still be fatally injured.

Time Stone

  • Time Manipulation: When the Eye of Agamotto is wielded by someone having the necessary knowledge and skills, it appears to be able to control the flow of time, be it on a small or massive scale, notably to turn back something to a previous state, to accelerate its time in order to apply changes that have not happened yet, or to lock it in a time loop, resetting its state until the wielder stops its effect.[6]

Darkhold Magic

An ancient book of spells and unspeakable power, that has been sought after by Red Skull, Daniel Whitehall, and Nick Fury.

  • Ghostly Transference: Momentum Labs, sought to use the secrets within the Darkhold to building a Quantum Particle Generator. The experiment went horribly wrong as the machine exploded and transformed Lucy Bauer and three of her co-workers Hugo, Frederick, and Vincent into spiritual entities. In their ghost-like state they possessed powers on Invisibility, Intangibility and the ability to infect humans with hallucinations that would gradually drive the victim to paranoia and homicidal rage, and eventually lead to death.
  • Matter Creation: After his successful use of the Momentum machine on himself, Morrow was able to form a solid piece of carbon from his hand from nothing, and have it floating in the air.

Transmutation

  • Transmutation: During his meeting with Thor, Doctor Strange was able to turn a cup of tea, into a mug of beer, after Thor said he does not drink tea. The mug was also able to magically refill itself, much to the pleasant surprise of Thor.
