L.O.L.A. (Levitating Over Land Automobile), often referred to as Lola, is a cherry-red 1962 Chevrolet Corvette belonging to S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Phil Coulson. Lola bears California license plate numbers 381 PCE and 681 PCE.

When in flight mode, the wheels would fold down and open up to reveal a hover-capable propulsion system, and the Corvette badge on the rear of the vehicle would flip over to reveal the S.H.I.E.L.D. insignia.

Robert Coulson would often spend time with his son Phil tinkering with a red Corvette; the two would work on the car even when Phil desired to be elsewhere.

Over time, Phil inherited the car, officially referring to it as the "Levitating Over Land Automobile", but affectionately nicknaming it as simply "Lola".

Phil Coulson allowed Melinda May to drive Lola during a mission in Madrid, as long she would not tell it.

Coulson showed Lola's flight capability to Skye when he was called back to the Bus to help with the identification of an 0-8-4.

While at The Sandbox, Agent Felix Blake touched Lola while he was leaving the Bus after he and Coulson had a conversation about S.H.I.E.L.D. protocols and Coulson's Team.

While in Mexico doing research into Skye's past, May decided to tell Coulson about her sexual relationship with Grant Ward as they sat in Lola. After they spotted former S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Richard Lumley, Coulson chased him with Lola. After Lumley started to climb away, Coulson activated Lola's flight mode and told him that he was with S.H.I.E.L.D.

During the HYDRA Uprising in which Grant Ward and Deathlok took control of the Bus with Skye as their captive, Coulson snuck in through the landing gear compartment, opened the cargo door, and rescued her with Deathlok in pursuit.

They then jumped into Lola with both Deathlok and Ward firing at them, to which Coulson retaliated by firing rounds from machine guns in the headlights to distract them as they reversed out of the cargo bay with the Bus in mid-flight. Skye almost fell out after not following Coulson's order to "buckle-up", but was pulled back in as they activated Lola's flight mode and flew down to the ground. They landed in a street parking space where the parking inspector asked them for the parking fee.

Lance Hunter asked Skye if she ever jumped from a plane during their mission to Morocco. She told him about the experience she and Coulson had with Lola.

Though he was impressed with the work Alphonso Mackenzie had done on a 1962 limousine, Coulson told Mackenzie that he was not permitted to repair Lola.

Mackenzie told Leo Fitz that he hoped to repair the real Lola as he drove a radio controlled toy version of the car through the hallways of the Playground. Fitz lifted the toy and asked if it could fly; Mackenzie told him it could not.

Phil Coulson praised the miniature version of Lola that Alphonso Mackenzie had given him when Mackenzie asked if he could work on the real version. Coulson asked if the miniature could fly; Mackenzie told him it could not. However, it did have a camera which Mackenzie used to find the location of the Toolbox.

Standing beside Lola on the Bus, Melinda May and Alphonso Mackenzie discussed the disappearance of Lance Hunter and Mackenzie's whereabouts.

While Alphonso Mackenzie was looking under the hood of Lola, Phil Coulson confronted him on his loyalty to S.H.I.E.L.D. Coulson said that he knew everything about the vehicle and was amazed at how the toy replica that Mackenzie gave him was so exact, except for one piece of equipment that Coulson knew was a camera.

A New Driver

Skye drove Lola to visit her father, who had recently gone through the T.A.H.I.T.I.-related procedures in order to erase his memories, after assisting S.H.I.E.L.D. against the Inhumans.

Back on the Road

Phil Coulson drove Lola with Alphonso Mackenzie to a jail to interrogate the inmate Eli Morrow. Coulson returned with no answers to Mackenzie. Suddenly, Mackenzie saw Robbie Reyes, the Ghost Rider, inside his car. Once Reyes noticed them, he escaped. Mackenzie said he would drive Lola after him, but Coulson did not let him. During the chase after Reyes, Mackenzie said the Coulson should have let him fix Lola's flying functionality, but Coulson said it will not be a problem, since Reyes crash his car on a Quinjet.

In Zephyr One's ramp, Melinda May (Life-Model Decoy) was sitting inside Lola. Daisy Johnson entered and the two talked about Coulson.

Lola is a fully restored S.H.I.E.L.D. collectible. A 1962 Chevrolet Corvette with modifications based on designs and technologies developed by Howard Stark, Lola is flight capable (VTOL) and equipped with flamethrowers, machine guns and the world's first GPS system. She holds clear sentimental value to Coulson with him reciting "Don't touch Lola!" to lower-level agents not a part of his team. It has become something of a mantra of his, even being recited by Skye to a S.H.I.E.L.D. technician when Coulson went missing.

Trivia

• A miniature version of Lola used to sit behind Coulson's desk in his former office at the Playground.
• In the 1960s, when the Marvel Comics Universe was still in its early days, "Lola" style flying cars were often seen in the S.H.I.E.L.D.-related issues.

Behind the Scenes

• In the Season 1 gag reel, a clip shows Lola unintentionally locked as Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet attempt to board the car.
