Loki is an American web television series, based on the Marvel Comics character of the same name. The series is a sequel to Avengers: Endgame. It is the third installment and the third television series of Phase Four of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The series is produced by Marvel Studios and was released on Disney+.

The first season will consist of six episodes and premiered on June 9, 2021. It ties in with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.[1]

The second season was revealed to be in development in November 2020.[2]

On September 18, 2018, Variety reported that Marvel Studios was developing a limited TV series for Loki on Disney+, with Kevin Feige set to serve as an executive producer.[6]

On November 8, 2018, Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed that the series was in development and that Tom Hiddleston was expected to reprise his role as Loki.[7]

On February 15, 2019, The Hollywood Reporter reported that Michael Waldron would serve as the showrunner and an executive producer of the series, as well as writing the pilot episode.[8]

On April 11, 2019, during Disney's Investor Day, it was announced that the series would premiere during the second year of Disney+.[9]

On July 20, 2019, at San Diego Comic-Con 2019, Kevin Feige announced that the series was scheduled to debut on Disney+ in the Spring of 2021. He also stated that the series would be exploring what Loki did after he stole the Tesseract during the Time Heist in Avengers: Endgame and created a new timeline.[10]

On August 8, 2019, it was reported that the series would begin filming on January 28, 2020.[11]

On August 14, 2019, during an interview with MTV News, Tom Hiddleston revealed that the series would be six hours long and teased that Loki would face "more formidable opponents" than he has encountered before.[12]

On August 23, 2019, at D23 Expo 2019, Kevin Feige announced that Kate Herron was expected to direct all six episodes.[13]

On November 7, 2019, Kevin Feige revealed that the series would tie-in with Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.[14]

On December 21, 2019, Tom Hiddleston revealed that the series had begun pre-production.[15]

On January 15, 2020, it was reported that the series would begin filming on January 20, 2020.[16]

On March 14, 2020, Marvel Studios paused production on Loki, along with The Falcon and The Winter Soldier and WandaVision, as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.[17]

On July 2, 2020, it was reported that the series would begin pre-production in Georgia that month, with the aim to start filming as early as August.[18]

On September 22, 2020, Gugu Mbatha-Raw revealed in an interview that the series had resumed production.[19]

On November 5, 2020, Production Weekly revealed that a second season of the series was in development and that the second season will start filming in January 2022, under the working title "Architect".[2]

On December 10, 2020, during Disney’s 2020 Investor Day, Kevin Feige announced that the series would premiere in May 2021.[5]

On December 16, 2020, it was reported that the series had wrapped filming.[20]

On January 5, 2021, Natalie Holt confirmed reports that she would be composing the score for the series.[21]

On February 24, 2021, it was announced that the series would premiere on June 11, 2021.[22]

On May 5, 2021, it was announced that the series' premiere was pushed up two days from its initial premiere date to June 9, 2021.[23]
